The Mission

True.

i probably might have done that damn record yeah right well shit what else is there yeah the mission a late period mission record

you know it's not gonna be very good it's fine

it might be fine

But yeah, it's some gothic goodness for Halloween.

And I didn't realize this until recently, but this is basically one long diss track because some members of the band had split off and formed another band called The Mission.

And Andrew Eldridge, who was the lead singer there, he apparently wrote this song in a similar writing style as the mission to make fun of them and calling them a corrosion of the sisters and their music, their derivative.

Now, I don't care about any of that stuff.

All I care about is singing along to, Hey now, hey now, now.

And it has both of his... 1980 solo album, Solo in Soho, the Phil Leonard album, along with remixes, rare demos, alternate versions, and a bunch of other stuff.

Also coming, The Mission, God's Own Medicine, Children, and Carved in Sand on vinyl.

And there you go.

That's kind of what's happening on the reissue front.

Well, it's funny too, Scott, this past week, and, you know, we got a mountain of requests when we were at our roadshow this past weekend, and I got a list of them.

Here's some of the bands that we didn't get a chance to play, and Shriek Back was one of them.

Shriek Back, The Mission, Sisters of Mercy.

Oddly enough, we had some requests for...

What bands are there?

The Mission.

Mm-hmm.

What's this? Marionettes, Rita Lynch, The Damned, The Stranglers.

Not really.

Why?

I mean, I'm familiar with, you know, Fields of the Nephilim, Sisters of Mercy, and The Mission, stuff like that, but, but I have never really kinda dug into it.

Why?

Um, the Sisters of Mercy, this is their second, like, full album.

Um, the first one was done with a few, uh, session musicians who left to form their own inferior band called The Mission.

Uh, this is in my opinion their best album.

This is their most iconic song.

Um, because this sounds a lot like the kind of late '80s gothic bands, uh, that were around then.

Uh, you hear a lot of stuff like The Mission or Flesh for Lulu, Daniel Dax, Gene Loves Jezebel.

I know this no- this means nothing to Matt and Max right now, but they- Mm-hmm ...

they sound a lot like those bands.

But the thing is, um, I think they're better than all of them, even The Mission, which are, like, a side project of former Sisters of Mercy members, and Sisters of Mercy are, like, a holy band in the goth scene.

And th- they have good songs, but Buck-Tick are my favorite because I think they have a tighter grasp on making a very good melodramatic hook.

Um, and I, and I have to talk about some sad stuff right now, um, because I do love Buck-Tick a lot and I, I, I have to talk- Mm ... of course, about, um, their lead singer Atsushi Sakurai, who passed- Mm ... away three years ago.
