The Mike Douglas Show

You know, she was just such a joy to have on every show.

And, you know, that as a kid, like, you know, the Mike Douglas show, the Dave Cavett, you know, I mean, all those shows.

She was on everyone.

And she was

It was an attempt to penetrate one of the major spaces in which American popular culture was produced and circulated.

On May 7th, he did the same thing to the Mike Douglas Show.

It was, there was a planned discussion of gay issues that were due b- to be on the Mike Douglas Show, and it had been canceled, and so the Gay Raiders response was, again, to handcuff themselves to a television camera.

[laughs] Um, this was, uh, again, very gorgeously symbolic.

Um, and it wasn't them standing outside with a protest sign.

In this one, I interview Gene Simmons, the long-tongued bass player and leader of Kiss.

In the early 70s, when he was trying to be the scary guy, the guy who scared parents so the kids wouldn't want to go by the record, he was on The Mike Douglas Show, and he was doing his routine.

But the comedian, Tootie Field, kind of had Gene Simmons' number.

around the time she was a regular on the CBS daytime variety program, The Robert Q. Lewis Show.

She frequented game shows and talk shows, including Hollywood Squares, The Mike Douglas Show, Hollywood Connection, and The Merv Griffin Show.

Married three times, including to musician Art Cain, with whom she adopted her late son, Paul Cain.

1954, she was honored as the year's best female vocalist by Downbeat and Cashbox magazines.

and, you know, and a vote therein.

So as we wrap up this morning, I appreciate you taking some time out with us and spending whatever you could and appreciate all, you know, like Kareem, I, you know, certainly appreciate his sending us the wonderful Ted Nugent, Dolly Parton duet from the Mike Douglas show, because I was trying to find a way to kind of get Ted and Dolly together, because Dolly has a lot of Ted-ness in her in the way she handled a lot of the controversies around her.
