The Midwich Cuckoos

Certainly.

Um, Mid- I mean, in Midwich Cuckoos, the, the, even the book, that, you know, the influence of that as literature and what you see seeded in, um, a very particular ilk of British literature-

... that we are, um, our writers, when they tackle horror, are often interested in things that are more subtle, um, eco-related, um, the land-

Mm-hmm

... and the way that kind of permeates and influences the psyche or shapes us into things that we, um, you know, that we, we would probably evolve into.

And I think Midwich Cuckoos is a really good, uh, that ...

Wyndham was a great writer, and I think he was-

Well, that goes right back to the book, though.

I mean, that, that's overtly discussed in the book, uh, The Midwich Cuckoos.

Um, there's actually less of it in the movie than there is in the novel, the '50s novel.

Well, it's in the-

Which is how they know that, you know, their endgame is coming, which is really nicely done in the book.

I, I was very impressed.

If you haven't read, uh, The Midwich Cuckoos, um, by John Wyndham, it's fantastic.

It's just really, it's a cracking movie.

Village of the Damned, the George Sanders version of it, the Midwich Cuckoos.

Oh, I've not seen that for years.

Cracking movie.

... like, uh, Dun- Dunitch, Dunwich horror like, uh, um, H.P. Lovecraft.

I was looking it up and it was more influenced by the Midwich Cuckoos, which is The Village of the Damned story.

But then what, something that I found, uh, very funny is that the, uh, the Midwich Elementary, [laughs] and I don't know if you've s- heard this, apparently the Midwich, and maybe this was more in the video games than in the movie, but the, the Midwich Elementary School was like down to like how, how it's organized, modeled on the school from Kindergarten Cop.

Yep.

It's a fantastic movie based on a book called The Midwich Cuckoos.

I forget who wrote the original story, but it's been adapted a bunch of times.

And it's a great film, and it takes place in this community, and everything goes curfewy.

So that's quite different to probably what I don't read a lot of science fiction, but they really stuck with me for some reason.

I really enjoyed them.
