I just saw that earlier, so I guess, you know, in terms of what the festival had to offer, that would definitely be in there.
Nick RuhrkrautHOST
39:19
The Man I Love would be up there and Rami Malek's performance, so I hope movies that we'll be talking about in the coming months.
Nick RuhrkrautHOST
39:30
But what were some of your favorite movies, if we've talked about them or not?
Sophia CiminelloHOST
39:34
Yeah.

6 MINS LATER

Sophia CiminelloHOST
45:31
I really want to see it because No Other Land, I think, is a, a fantastic documentary and one that really stayed with me and that I saw in a theater.
Sophia CiminelloHOST
45:40
So I really want to see Naza in a theater as well.
Sophia CiminelloHOST
45:43
You mentioned it, The Man I Love.
Sophia CiminelloHOST
45:46
I still haven't seen this, the Iris Sax movie.
GraceHOST

[laughs]
ScottHOST

Kev and I also both saw, uh, The Man I Love, which is the new-

That's right
ScottHOST

...
GraceHOST
7:55
Mm-hmm.
KevGUEST
7:55
Can I, can I just say both of those movies of, like ...
KevGUEST
7:58
To me, like, well, thinking about The Intern, mostly about The Man I Love, I love a hangout movie where the stakes feel kinda low-
ScottHOST
8:04
Yeah.
Max SlothHOST
21:54
What I, I, what I wanted to point out was you said that was such a moving, and, like, the, the conclusion it comes to at the end, I won't spoil it, but it's an optimistic view on how we move forward as a society.
Max SlothHOST
22:08
I just wanted to say my sensibilities, uh, the film Possible Love I thought really lined up, 'cause it's dealing with very similar, uh, themes of capitalism and relationship dynamics and where do we go in this society in a modern day.
Max SlothHOST
22:26
And I just wanted to say personally, I gravitated toward Possible Love.
Max SlothHOST
22:30
I thought it was a masterpiece of the festival in my opinion.
Max SlothHOST
22:34
But you, I think you gravitated towards All of a Sudden.
Max SlothHOST
22:37
Is that correct?
Nathaniel AhartGUEST
22:39
Yeah.
Nathaniel AhartGUEST
22:39
Well, I think Possible Love is interesting, 'cause that, it, that also, it's, it's shorter than All of a Sudden.

The Man I Love as well, very good in that.
Shane KellyHOST
5:13
Yeah.
Shane KellyHOST
5:14
And it's like, it's a reasonably kind of simplistic, I don't wanna say shallow, but, like, surface level depiction of kind of certain marital and family problems.
speaker_2GUEST
14:33
Um, and this year we have a really special kind of, uh, we're shining a light on our Outlook program and celebrating the careers of many really groundbreaking queer filmmakers.
speaker_2GUEST
14:44
Um, a few that I'm really excited that are coming to the festival are iconic filmmakers Ira Sachs, who's here with the new film, The Man I Love.
speaker_2GUEST
14:53
Uh, he's going to be in conversation at one point on Wednesday, the tw- October 21st, with British queer filmmaker Andrew Haigh, who's here with his film, A Long Winter.
speaker_2GUEST
15:02
These two filmmakers, uh, both presenting their own work and being able to be in conversation with each other is a really unique experience.
QuentinHOST
97:23
What about you, Jack? Any other hidden gems that, uh, we didn't end up getting mentioned here?
JackHOST
97:28
I'm gonna throw, uh, The Man I Love.
JackHOST
97:30
I think this was the better drama dealing with AIDS and using that as a way for, uh, artistic, uh, artistic, uh, expression.
JackHOST
97:41
And basically you have Rami Malek, who's playing a actor who's trying to perform a play that's very, like, tolling on his body.
JackHOST
99:00
Um, so yeah.
JackHOST
99:02
I think this is the reason why I really wanted to, like, throw a bone for this film because I think it's, like, way better than, like, Elsinore, where Elsinore was kinda more conventional, and it was doing things that I've already seen before.
JackHOST
99:15
And I think The Man I Love was just, like, very subversive in the type of, uh, themes that we are usually seeing or we usually see before.
JackHOST
99:24
So yeah, that's why I picked this.
Chris FeilHOST
25:58
Maisie
Joe ReidHOST
25:59
Stella was in The Man I Love.
Chris FeilHOST
26:04
Oh yeah, Maisie Stella, because I said she has iPhone face, so she didn't make sense in that milieu.
Chris FeilHOST
26:10
It's true, though.
Courtney SmallGUEST
28:48
It's good.
Courtney SmallGUEST
28:49
The Man I Love, which is another film that I saw later in the week with Remy Malek and again, another film about a actor who has aids and he's kind of going through it and there's a young neighbor downstairs that thinks he could be the romantic distraction that malik's character needs well while malik's actual live-in boyfriend is the kind of caregiver who doesn't get any respect he's there making sure all bills are counted what have you and that performance as just a supportive performance was amazing i was really fascinated with that whole dynamic um again it was just i think some films kind of hit people harder than others and i think because i had that emotional early on of just family emotion and sadness that by the time I got to those films I was like it's solid but my eyes were dry they were not there was no water left to tap
Mark HoffmeyerHOST
29:56
the only time my eyes welled were in Alaska that was it that's what I
Courtney SmallGUEST
30:02
missed
Courtney SmallGUEST
31:33
I was like, oh, no one's going to want to see this.
Courtney SmallGUEST
31:34
And it was completely sold out.
Courtney SmallGUEST
31:36
Whereas The Man I Love was still available.
Courtney SmallGUEST
31:40
I think it might have been...
Eric MarchenHOST
12:22
Yeah.
Eric MarchenHOST
12:23
So then I watched Ira Sachs' new movie, The Man I Love.
Eric MarchenHOST
12:28
Ira Sachs is a really wonderful filmmaker.
Eric MarchenHOST
12:30
Love is Strange, Passages, Married Life, Little Men.
Josh ParhamPANELIST
31:05
They're also showing Ray Gunn there.
Josh ParhamPANELIST
31:07
And yeah, also, I'm actually really curious about The Man I Love.
Josh ParhamPANELIST
31:12
I know that's not even probably coming out this year, but it's also maybe a reason why I am very excited for it.
Josh ParhamPANELIST
31:17
And I'm always in the tank for Ira Sachs.
