The logic of the spirit

So the last two episodes of our podcast have been quotes of James Loader that you have sent to me and we've parsed through from his book, "The Logic of the Spirit." I'm gonna make a confession to you.

I am pretty sure that "Logic of the Spirit" was on required reading of one of your classroom syllabi from 2007, 2008 when I was taking your classes.

But I will admit to you now, I don't think I ever bought that book and I don't think I ever read it.

And so really trying to explore how the human spirit is transformed by the Holy Spirit.

Also a kind of Kierkegaard scholar, so he's, like, trying to read Kierkegaard.

And what he's doing in "The Logic of the Spirit," which is a really kind of fascinating thing for us to think about and I think really does...

It's a hard book, so I understand why you didn't read it.

Like, Loader is maybe the most brilliant guy we've had and, and-

And then I want to dig into it because I think there's a lot of wisdom here.

So in his book, The Logic of the Spirit, James Loader says this, Many persons go into the helping professions, and ministry in particular, because for the most part they are sensitive, caring people.

But such people usually get hurt.

In order to avoid the pain and keep on in ministry, they construct a persona of kindness, a mask that looks just like them when they are being most kind and most caring." Their most genuine caring selves are then reduced to a role.
