See, it's a bit different to Game of Thrones, isn't it? I don't recall D&D making a lot of references to, you know, historical fiction and literature and legend.

I knew I wasn't going to enjoy it, and I wasn't sure how much I would even learn.

So I don't know if there's too many early Middle Ages movies out there, things that you think of as like The Lion in Winter and all this sort of stuff.

That's all from a later period, like I was talking about those other games, the upper or high Middle Ages.

Okay, so I got nothing on movies.

I noticed earlier today there was an audition for a play that I just adore.

And I One day I would love to play Eleanor of Aquitaine in The Lion in Winter.

Now, I mentioned my friend Scott Thompson.

He did a production of Lion in Winter, and he played young Prince John.

And in fact, two of his biggest triumphs were as repressed, emotionally distant figures in Howard's End and The Remains of the Day.

But by the time those films came out, he'd already been acting for three decades, getting his start in British film and television with appearances in The Lion in Winter, the 1969 adaptation of Hamlet, and a 1975 adaptation of All Creatures Great and Small that was eventually eclipsed by the popular TV show.

He made the jump to America in the late 1970s with the movies A Bridge Too Far and Magic, and he went on to acclaimed roles in The Elephant Man, The Bunker, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and The Bounty before finally starring in the role that would define him in the public consciousness and earn him his first Oscar, The Silence of the Lambs.

His performance of Hannibal Lecter became iconic, one of cinema's truly great villains, and he would reprise it in 2001's Hannibal and 2002's Red Dragon.

So Robert Preston dusts himself off and plunges into his next musical, a flop called Ben Franklin in Paris.

That's it, no more musicals, only plays, and he knocks them dead during The Lion in Winter.

And soon Mary Martin comes a-knockin'.
