The Lady in the Lake

So, who better to assist on a story like Double Indemnity but Raymond Chandler? Chandler had been writing fictional stories for newspapers and magazines since the early 1900s, and most recently, at the time, he had success writing crime thrillers featuring the private detective Philip Marlowe.

He had films like The Big Sleep, Farewell, My Lovely, The High Window, and The Lady in the Lake, all of which were turned into feature films and featured that character, Philip Marlowe.

However, Chandler had never actually worked on a Hollywood screenplay and didn't know the business like Wilder did.

Chandler believed he could simply knock out a screenplay in a week, so he wrote his script.
