There's Danny Lee, Lei Shaoyin, who's our other... lead in this movie and of course would be part of a spectacular double act with Jagan Fatt also in the John Woo film The Killer and Danny Lee by even at this stage of his career was kind of typecast as a cop and had great reserves about playing a gangster I mentioned before it's interesting I can't it's very unusual to see the hear the music on the soundtrack and then unexpectedly we see the blind guy playing the saxophone and it's like another nice little touch there uh In every film that Ringo Lam does, the music is such a key element.

I mean, of the better films that he's done.

And he felt that the saxophone was a very manly instrument.

And Canada was seeming to be like an interesting option because... you want to leave Hong Kong, you don't want to be stuck here during the handover.

Canada, of course, of interest to Ringo Lam, because he'd studied at York University in Toronto, where he actually, Ringo Lam was given the name Ringo by a girl at a party, and then came back to begin his filmmaking career in Hong Kong.

That his first major film, which was a romantic comedy with the singer Sally Yip, who was in The Killer with Jay Infant, but this movie Cupid One with Sally Yip, and it was the producer, Carl MacGarr watched the film and he said he had an opposite, normally when he watched the director's first film or early film, he wanted to cut it down because people were used to film too much.

But in this instance, he actually wished it was longer.

And to your point, he plays it a little lighter, but with that confidence that you're talking about.

And, you know, it's sort of, it would have been very easy for him to sort of just play the same character he does in, you know, Better Tomorrow, then subsequently after this, The Killer.

But he seems to, you know, know what Ringo Lam wants.

And he walks a really good line between, you know, not necessarily goofy, but sort of a little more playful, but without losing that heroicness to it, that edgy heroicness.

so weird seeing these two together and not in the killer, if that makes sense.

It's such an iconic duo.

But it's like Bill and Ted, Wayne and Garth, who came first, you know? Wayne and

I love his films, his early films that he made in Hong Kong.

And if I'm not mistaken, David Wu, who was, he edited the film, but he also was the editor on John Woo's The Killer.

So I love the people who are involved.

I mean, and they brought Robert Englund back.

reason is as well.

I have this such, such a fucking affection for Hong Kong cinema and obviously Hard Boiled, The Killer, Chow Yun Fat and John Woo.

And the fact that we got a sequel to Hard Boiled with tequila in the form of Stranglehold.

And if you bought the steelbook, you got Hard Boiled, the DVD and Stranglehold.

I think that's probably my favorite John Woo sequel.

Hong Kong movie that I've seen that's great fun and probably my favourite Chow Yun Fat performance as well he's just a charisma machine in that then what else did I see I think I saw The Killer the other day as well, which is a John Woo movie, which again is a step down from this, but very good fun.

Very well seen.

And it kind of made me understand John Woo's movies in a different context, even leading the way to Face Off.
