excited to talk about this guy i've been we've talked about michael man a little bit on the show with a couple of titles uh we've had heat we've had um we talked about the keep actually early on in the show

We talked about the keep early on in the podcast.

We had talked about The Keep early on in the podcast.

That was my start in music, really.

It's funny you talk about that entryway into the music of fantasy, because yeah, I was definitely a metal kid, but I think I actually discovered electronica through renting the keep from a VHS store when I was probably 13 or 14.

John Carpenter in? No, it's Michael Mann.

Oh, right.

With a really dreamy atmosphere, but an absolutely incredible Tangerine Dream soundtrack.

Mind-blowingly brilliant soundtrack.

The weird thing about that, though, is for years and years and years, you couldn't actually get the soundtrack to the keep.

And then Tangerine Dream released a massive box set, which had the soundtrack to The Keep, but most of the music is music that composes for The Keep that isn't in the film.

Michael Mann does, like you, I don't think Michael Mann's ever had sex or knows what sex is because he just doesn't know how to, no.

You brought this up during The Keep.

Yeah.

And so when the first sex scene happened in this film, I was like, remember? Remember you said this?

All right, so I-

Wait, they also did The Church or The Keep? Which of those movies? I think The Church, right?

Hold on.

Goblin.

And, uh, I, I did feel like Manhunter didn't get a lot of love for, for many, many years, but, um, I mean, it, it is in my opinion the best Hannibal Lecter movie, but I'm biased 'cause any, like, Michael Mann does, is all my favorite movies.

I mean, I, d- what do you think of The Keep?

Okay, I've never seen it, so don't judge me.

... and then there was outrage.

So in the next edit he put the song back in but with no lyrics, and so it was like a compromise with the fans.

And, and yeah, so, so that's a long way of saying that, like, The Keep, a lot of people are waiting for the 4K version-

There's The Keep.

They're too big.

Yeah, yeah.

It wasn't like the number one box office hit of the year, but it did well.

He then did a film called The Keep, which didn't work.

He did Manhunter, which a lot of people love, but because of some shenanigans at studio executive level, it didn't get a big release and didn't make a lot of money.

And he kind of was probably more successful on TV prior to this with Miami Vice and Crime Story and some of the other stuff he did on TV.

Well, I mean... until you get into the details, I mean, because one of the other panelists brought what he considered to be possibly the most over the top release on Blu-ray of, of a, of a marginal slash lesser known slash.

Well, not particularly well thought of at the time film, which is that gigantic release of the keep.

And he plopped that on the table and went, I think this is the, I think this is the end point, right? Yes, possibly.

Even though I don't have it yet.
