The Journeymen

California Dreaming was written by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips, who were living in New York during a particularly cold winter and missing sunny California.

They were members of a group called the New Journeymen at the time that evolved into the Mamas and the Papas, who, of course, recorded that song.

OK, definitely autumn next.

This track by Lewis McLaughlin is called that.

Well, this was also the case here, as multiple groups formed together from the old Los Angeles folk scene.

There was John Phillips of The Journeymen, who'd be teaming up with wife Michelle to form this new group.

And then there was the Mugwumps, a group featuring Denny Doherty and Cass Elliott.

The lady known as Mama Cass would turn out to be the group's biggest asset, yet John Phillips was initially skeptical of her entry into the band.
