The Innkeepers

Mm-hmm.

But I think with this one, and I kinda hinted at it when we were doing The Innkeepers about this movie, and I didn't say what the movie was, right? I just said, "Hey, there's, there's a little bit of that found," not found footage, but the, you know, people walking through hau- real haunted houses and as opposed to reality shows that you never see anything.

Mm-hmm.

Right? This one, again, spawned four movies to follow this one, original one.

Yeah

... 'cause there's no music.

The only time you're hearing music is when they're doing the doc- well, on the documentary side of things, right? Where they have, again, those ominous drones underneath the, the same kind of things that we were hearing in, uh, The Innkeepers.

Mm-hmm.

And Ty West, who was a fan of Opie and Anthony, I believe he cast Kumi in like two different movies.

They popped up in The Innkeepers.

Spectember 2026 continues with 2011's The Innkeepers from writer-director, in this case, Ti West, following up House of the Devil from just a couple years earlier.

This is a quaint little ghost story.

Mm-hmm.

It's just, I mean, look, I think that's one of the reasons why those reality shows have just...

When you start having merch, then you're kinda, I'm tapping out.

Anyway, so there's, there's Ti West, The Innkeepers.

You know what's funny is, I mean, House of the Devil is a very slow-burning movie as well.

Just trying to set the scene for everybody.

The star of The Innkeepers was like, there's nothing scarier than being trapped in space.

And I was like, oh, that's interesting.

Maybe there's something there.

And it's got different directors like Hiro Murai and Tai West.

Tai West of the X Trilogy and The Innkeepers.

And the creator and showrunner is Katie Dippold.

She's worked on Parks and Rec.

lovely? I've always loved House of the Devil, which we were doing.

The Innkeepers, maybe I need to watch it again.

I haven't seen it since it came out, but I remember feeling let down by that one.

Sure.

She's a stage actor who did that and was surprised to find a profile of herself.

MCU became so metadata-ed out like that.

I love being able to tell her because she's in, if you saw The Sacrament, the Ty West movie after The Innkeepers.

That one I didn't see because I think I was still mad about The Innkeepers.

And that's a trend that's going to continue this year with Paranormal Activity 3.

You have Ty West coming off of House of the Devil, does The Innkeepers with, I think, Pat Healy and Sarah Paxton, which is another really fun, almost like a horror comedy in some ways, supernatural-like ghost movie in a haunted hotel.

Resolution, I believe, comes out either 2010 or 2011, but you get Benson and Moorhead with a sort of supernatural film like it's a lot of cosmic horror it's a lot of like the unknowable in that movie it's also the year Mike Flanagan releases his debut feature Absentia as well which is a little indie really solid movie and it's a guy that like you watch that movie and you're like well this guy is going to have the juice There's also films like You're Next with Adam Wingard, Simon Barrett writing it, which is like a fun take on like the Home Invasion movie with one of the best final girls of all time.

It might be A.J. Bowen's best performance as someone I love as a longtime staple of like indie horror movies.

But yeah, Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore is like a movie theater workplace movie about um it's got a lot of workplace hanging out and this girl's like 18 and about to go off to college and it's like her experience so those are like the two that i thought of like that are kind of similar to this in a way gotcha

So my double feature I would put with this would be Ty West's The Innkeepers from 2011 starring Sarah Paxton, which is incidentally my favorite ghost story.

But so much of that movie is just her and I can't think of the other actor's name just hanging out working at this hotel job front desk like before it closes.

And even if there hadn't been a ghost story involved, and we have an episode on this, go listen to it, everyone.
