I'm a 34-year-old man who never read the Percy Jackson books as a kid, but I read them as an adult because I was on a quest to determine if society had been sleeping on the series.
Mike SchubertHOST
0:43
I said yes, and now I'm seeing if society has been sleeping on the Heroes of Olympus series.
Mike SchubertHOST
0:46
And I'm joined today by someone who was all around New York Comic Con with me covering Percy Jackson stuff, both for the TV show and for The Wild Zone.
Mike SchubertHOST
0:56
But now we are here to discuss The Blood of Olympus, two very fun chapters.
Gillian BlumGUEST
1:51
Yeah.
Mike SchubertHOST
1:51
Sure.
Mike SchubertHOST
1:52
It felt like a very stand-on-its-own set of chapters, and it also was a great, hey, have you not read Heroes of Olympus in a long time chapters? Because there's plenty of, oh yeah, when this happened in
Gillian BlumGUEST
2:03
The Son of Neptune,
speaker_0HOST
21:52
Scobell mentions that the Titans' curse is just the beginning for Percy and Nico.
speaker_0HOST
21:56
He explicitly references Rick Riordan's follow-up series, Heroes of Olympus.
speaker_1HOST
22:00
Oh, man.
speaker_1HOST
22:00
If they get to Heroes of Olympus.
speaker_0HOST
22:02
Right.
speaker_0HOST
22:02
Scobell notes that they could be, quote-unquote, doing this for years together.
ManasaHOST
1:36
It's a delight to listen to.
ErinHOST
1:38
So much analysis, whereas the rest is just like trying to catch up, because two, the other series are a lot longer and more chapters, at least Heroes of Olympus, but... yeah I'm it's making me excited to see these chapters in the show as well and just see this the next season of the show in general
ManasaHOST
1:57
PJO because it's like very properly a children's book has just what I think is incredible pacing where it's like a lot happens but it makes sense for the content and the age group that it's catering towards and it also is not trying to be overly fluffy or try to add too many characters that are unnecessary so these three chapters like we get going like it's very fun to start off with yeah
ErinHOST
2:25
it's great and yeah just for the purpose of this episode or this I guess the next seven episodes we'll be doing it's kind of like a re-release re-listen where like we're re-recording a new intro with us now I think if there's any like new Percy Jackson things that come out also in the lead up to the show we can discuss that here um kind of giving some like briefings or things to listen for at the beginning.

45 MINS LATER

ErinHOST
48:11
like
speaker_2HOST
48:12
the other thing Chrissy has no idea
ErinHOST
48:14
oh the other thing I'm like I so I've read this book twice before I read it like the first time and then I reread it like a year ago but honestly when I reread it a year ago it was like it felt like the first time again because I hadn't read it in so long this is probably the one I've read the least so this feels like the real time I'm rereading it and I'm like with the foresight I also hadn't read Heroes of Olympus so like now I'm reading it with the foresight of Heroes of Olympus and Trials of Apollo and I'm just like Nico oh my gosh Poor, sweet baby Nico.
ErinHOST
48:44
I just want to protect him.
Shané OosthuizenGUEST
20:07
Um, ugh, have you read all of them?
Isabella FrancisGUEST
20:10
I, I think I, I stopped at some point, um, but it was in the Heroes of Olympus series.
Isabella FrancisGUEST
20:16
So I've read all of the, um, the Percy Jackson books, and then I've dabbled in a couple of the other ones, for instance, The Trials of Apollo, which is hilarious, which is Apollo, um, being forced to become a camper.
Shané OosthuizenGUEST
20:29
Oh [laughs].

9 MINS LATER

Isabella FrancisGUEST
29:10
[laughs]
Adelaide JensenHOST
29:11
[laughs]
Shané OosthuizenGUEST
29:11
But, um, also what gets more interesting in Heroes of Olympus is because the first book is, like, ostensibly still in the same world with kind of like the Greek gods, but then it expands and there is this whole other Roman aspect, these Roman gods, so they have, like, their equivalent of a summer camp.
Shané OosthuizenGUEST
29:26
So then you have the Roman, like, versions of the gods as well, and they're all a bit different because it's like-
Mike SchubertHOST

I am a 34-year-old man who never read the Percy Jackson books as a kid, but I read them as an adult because I was on a quest to determine if society had been sleeping on the series.
Mike SchubertHOST
1:53
I said yes, and then I'm currently seeing if society has been sleeping on the Heroes of Olympus series, but I'm taking a brief break to see...
Mike SchubertHOST
2:01
Is society sleeping on the wild zone? Question mark in the new Return to Camp Half-Blood series.
Mike SchubertHOST
2:06
I don't think you can qualify it as sleeping on since we're recording this a day before the book comes out because we are distinguished members of the press with advanced copies, a.k.a. very scary legal PDFs that say confidential and our names on them.

11 MINS LATER

Mike SchubertHOST
12:58
Like this is taking up time and I'm invested in the plot of the bigger picture, not necessarily the smaller picture.
Mike SchubertHOST
13:05
That's how I felt.
Mike SchubertHOST
13:06
But on the flip side, I could just be one in the zone of reading the Heroes of Olympus, which is very much like that, especially the last two books, which I'm in the middle of the fifth.
Mike SchubertHOST
13:17
And also those books are way longer.
David KantorskiGUEST
30:13
[laughs]
Tim DippelHOST
30:14
Get to Heroes of Olympus, you'll get there.
David KantorskiGUEST
30:16
Oh, sure.
Alyssa BonjourGUEST
30:16
Okay [laughs].
