The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I think it is all subtitles unfortunately, but, um- There's a movie that I, I told you about before that I loved.

It's called Lamb, the A24 movie with, um, [smacks lips] The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo-

Yes

...

I will also present thoughts on a handful of literary works, and there may be the odd vaguely philosophical piece as well.

On this occasion I will be discussing the original Swedish version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, released in 2009.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a Swedish neo-noir thriller that has two major assets.

Its storyline of topical relevance concerning the abuse and murder of young and vulnerable women by wealthy or influential men who operate apparently unchecked by law enforcement, and the film's enigmatic heroine, or anti-heroine, who plays with convention and reverses stereotypes.

Wealthy businessman Henrik Wanger seeks information about the disappearance or, he suspects, murder of his niece Harriet some 40 years previously, and he hires famed journalist Mikael Blomqvist to investigate.

Can it be the library app that apparently only in Los Angeles do they care about sharing library movies, information, whatever.

The original film adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in Swedish, the original language of the book by Stieg Larsson.

Come on.

We're doing the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Swedish, I could not.

Swedish was like, I was watching The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, right? The originals, which are so much better than the remake with Daniel Craig.

I mean, Rooney Mara was amazing.

I'm not going to ever knock her performance, but the Swedish version with Noomi, Oh, God, what is her other name? Raparse? Rapasse?

I'm not very far, but I feel like it's ... you get into it very, very quickly.

What I think is interesting about this in terms of translation is the fact that the Swedish, the original Swedish title, is Män som hatar kvinnor, Men Who Hate Women, and the translation into English is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Um, possibly to sell it better? I don't know.

Mia, you've read it.

The commitment to doing what is right is very, very important to Noomi.

I mean, she's going to talk about that in the context of her big breakout role as Elizabeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

But she's also going to talk about the quest for truth in her latest film.

It's called In Alaska.

Yeah.

That also – yeah.

When you get cast in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which was – it becomes this massive, huge success all over the world.

You then start getting offered roles in Hollywood.
