The Gift of Fear

Yeah.

There's an amazing book, The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker, which is fantastic.

It's a fantastic book and he talks about how we have all of these data points.

His whole argument is that people can save themselves from violence by listening to the inner part of them that knows before it can come out with a cohesive narrative.

And overriding that what might seem to be a bizarre intuition or a weird or a surprising new direction of behavior.

And finding the inner voice is not something you do on paper.

It's not.

You can go ahead and learn it in a book, but it's through action.

Your caution is wise.

There is a book called The Gift of Fear by a guy named Gavin.

I believe it's Gavin DeBecker.

And you want to, you know.

But imagine all of the petty crimes, all of the accidents that wouldn't happen if people simply took the earbuds out and looked up from their phone while crossing the street.

Some of the resources I know you like are, there's a book called The Gift of Fear.

Any others that you would recommend?

For people that really want to go into personal security or think more thoughtfully about that, I highly recommend Gavin DeBecker's The Gift of Fear.

He actually, I think, became very famous in the 90s because Oprah had him on, if I remember correctly.

But that book is unbelievable.

So you'd think, "Sir, if we, we call this in, we're gonna be out here all day." So, there's that listening to subordinates element, but you're still the leader having to make the decision, and it was a bit of, of something wasn't right, intuition.

That book, The, The Gift of Fear, which I had read before this, I mean, it's how many times we actually override that-

Um, actually one of my favorite books relating to this is called, uh, The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker about our, you know, our minds are, are super computers taking in information.

But on this, on this day, um, Brooks again calls out, "Stop IED." Uh, this one was over the, the actual, the radio.

And we all stop and, um, he had seen with his hawk eyes an IED kind of in a covert, um, a one five five round in the open, um, with a yellow wire running out the back of it.

I did it right in front of Sam because I knew that if I didn't, then he would think I was up to something and they told him about it.

So I just acted as if Sam was not a predator, but to keep these women safe from other predators, they really ought to read The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker.

And that was scary.

Another time, Tolga almost blew it because we were doing this music video.

And so I think what's so sad is when we finally, I know for me, I got the courage to leave and I found a counselor that had been through it.

And so she got me to read the book, The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker.

There's many wonderful podcasts.

One is called, I think, Why Doesn't She Just Leave? Also Laura Richards, who's the queen of coercive control, trying to get laws passed.
