The Gaslight Anthem

And...

Talking about our punk rock roots, I live in New Jersey and one of my favorite bands is called the Gaslight Anthem.

Ironically, side note, the lead singer came out with a new album today, Brian Fallon, and the album is a 10

out of

10.

Just so you know, it's a 10 out of 10.

Anyway, I'm into this band called the Gaslight Anthem.

This band saved my life.

Let's dive in.

DJ Broner cut his teeth booking shows and talent buying at The Alley in Fullerton, giving Southern California some of its earliest stages for The Gaslight Anthem and One Republic, while also directing his first music video for punk and hardcore act Emery in 2004, and helping route national tours for bands like The Matches and Voodoo Glow Skulls.

He later served as COO of a music TV network before spending two decades producing over 500 music videos through his own production company, and eventually launching Tough Management, spanning music videos, artist management, and touring.

Today, it all comes back to one goal, helping artists build real, lasting careers without burning out the way he almost did.

The trade press runs completely separate stories about how good the business is.

And I think about even back in the 90s and early 2000s, When I was playing in bands on a Tuesday night in front of, you know, 40 people and we were opening for some small touring band, you know, regional, national, what have you.

And, you know, there was three other bands on the bill and we were splitting the door, you know, after the sound guy took his cut.

We would honestly usually give our cut to the touring band because, you know, they were the ones that aren't being mentioned in the RIA report.

You know, they were tracking whether they made enough money to cover gas to get to the next city for the next show.

It was literally hand to mouth, right? And that's the actual music economy for almost everyone who's ever picked up an instrument professionally.

It's not the $6 billion headline number.

It's the gas money number, the merch table number, the am I going to make rent this month number number.

I mean, he's, he's like a really funny guy, and he's also, like, a huge devotee of, like, big time, like, stadium rock type music.

Like, he loves that kind of stuff, even though he, like, comes from this punk background with The Gaslight Anthem.

I mean, the guy- ... can just talk about like 80s rock like nobody else out there.

And I feel like this album manifests that side of his personality more than like a lot of records that he, that he's made in his life.

I'm like, it's definitely got a 20 in it.

It's been a few years, but he performed with his band, the Gaslight Anthem, at our show.

But this project is completely different.

So tell me about this project.

But I think once you like have a band that you've been together with so long and you know each other so well, you kind of know where your strengths and weaknesses are.

And then you say like, well, this maybe is pointing this way over here.

This is definitely for the Gaslight Anthem.

Also, it's a very simple thing where sometimes we just go, you want this one? And they go, no, I don't want that one.

the Gaslight Anthem is complaining about it non-stop.
