Sam PanicoGUEST
It's another movie where I'm like, "I'm not gonna watch it again.
Sam PanicoGUEST
Of course I'm gonna watch it again, and I'm gonna, like, go crazy just like I do every time." The Funhouse, I do the same thing with The Funhouse.
Sam PanicoGUEST
I really like Tobe Hooper.
Sam PanicoGUEST
[laughs]
Sam PanicoGUEST
I'll still watch it
Philip DukeHOST
...
Philip DukeHOST
I like The Funhouse, I like, uh, you know, Lifeforce.
Philip DukeHOST
Um-
Jacob LuxHOST
I like Hooper's version, but nowhere near as much as I love King's original novel.
Jacob LuxHOST
In 1981, Hooper would release his most criminally overlooked film, The Funhouse.
Jacob LuxHOST
Inspired by the success of 1980's Friday the 13th, The Fun House is a classic teen horror slasher flick that takes place in a carnival and features the ever-charming weirdo William Finley as the carnival's resident magician.
Jacob LuxHOST
We follow a group of teenagers who witness a murder after deciding to stay the night inside of the Fun House.
39 MINS LATER
BriannaGUEST
Like, give me Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, out in the middle of nowhere.
BriannaGUEST
I'll take it.
Jacob LuxHOST
But yes, you love the Funhouse.
Jacob LuxHOST
I'm sorry I cut you off.
Neal McLaughlinHOST
Unfortunately, though, I don't think the ones that have been set there are very good.
Neal McLaughlinHOST
Like, there's another one called The Fun House, which, I don't know, a lot of people are really into The Fun House.
Neal McLaughlinHOST
I don't really think it's that great.
Lainey JGUEST
Well, isn't there that movie, there's a song about eyes, like a creepy song about eyes that...
ShaheenHOST
another Tobe Hooper.
ShaheenHOST
Well, actually, I did the magazine cover, but the Funhouse, which I actually watched last weekend.
ShaheenHOST
The original
Jon DraperHOST
Funhouse.
ShaheenHOST
I think they did, but I haven't seen it.
ShaheenHOST
But the original is really fun.
ShaheenHOST
It's a little slow in the beginning, but it's a fun teenage 80s movie, and it's got a bunch of different kind of villains in there, some creepy toys and puppets and stuff, so I highly recommend the Funhouse.
Jon DraperHOST
And B-Show, not a lot of slashers yet, so it's early in the genre.
Tony WalshGUEST
He did Lifeforce, which is kinda weird, but cool.
Tony WalshGUEST
He did The Fun House, which I love.
Tony WalshGUEST
He did Invaders from Mars.
Tony WalshGUEST
There's so many others I'm not even thinking of right now.
ZeusHOST
Carny folk galore.
TomHOST
Dude, I sw- I think it's where they filmed the 1981 slasher, The Funhouse.
ZeusHOST
Yes.
ZeusHOST
[laughs]
MikeHOST
Toby Hooper.
MikeHOST
I should know that because I was actually just watching Funhouse the other day.
MikeHOST
I'm a big Toby Hooper fan.
Tony WashGUEST
It was, I want to say it was 82 or 83, so it was either right after or during Poltergeist.
Rob HunterGUEST
I love the novelizations where, you know, they keep the, the story and the, you know, the ideas, the characters, whatever, but then they kinda build on it.
Rob HunterGUEST
One of my favorite novelizations is, uh, Dean Koontz did one of, uh, Hooper's The Funhouse, and that book is fantastic because it hits all the beats you know and love from the movie-
Dirk MarshallHOST
Mm
Rob HunterGUEST
...
IanHOST
some bangers.
IanHOST
The Warriors, The Funhouse, Southern Comfort, Streets of Fire, Poltergeist 2, Inner Space.
GaryHOST
A bit of a Walter Hill kind of guy,
IanHOST
isn't he? And his last film, last feature of him was Ghost Dad.
