The Four Preps

Talk about a tainted love

Tainted Love, written by Ed Cobb of the pop group The Four Preps and recorded by Gloria Jones in 1965 on Champion Records, and later a number eight hit for Soft Cell in 1982.

However, it wasn't the original that influenced them.

Nope, Soft Cell based their cover of Tainted Love on the 1975 cover version by Ruth Swan.

The song Don't Turn Around was written by Diane Warren and Albert Hammond, and was recorded by Tina Turner during her Break Every Rule album recording session.

The track didn't make it onto the album, but was used as a non-LP B side for her 1986 single Typical Male.

Fast-forward to 1994, and Swedish pop group Ace of Base hits number four with their cover version.

Here is Tina's 1986 original version of Don't Turn Around.

Well, so

in 65, you start working with Ed Cobb as a producer, and he'd been a member of the Four Preps.

They were like a male vocal group, and they didn't seem to be very rocking whatsoever.

How did you wind up working with Ed Cobb?
