The Fog

After your work in television in that way, you transitioned to become one of the most famous horror movie actresses of all time.

I mean, you were in The Fog.

You were in Swamp Thing.

And he called me in, I think, because he had seen the work I had done, especially on Maude, and he knew that I sort of represented the kind of woman's character that he was attracted to, which was he always talked about the Howard Hawks woman, Lauren Bacall, Catherine Hepburn, you know, somebody who's strong but can be funny or...

So he hired me for Someone's Watching Me.

We eventually... fell in love, and he offered me my first film role, which was The Fog.

I read the screenplay and I thought, ah, what is this? This was in the era when we were fighting for women's rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, and China Syndrome was a big hit, and Coming Home, and socially significant issues like I'd been dealing with for six years on Maude.

Yeah.

Uh, and then it would show like, I guess, what they say it's like the void with the, the clouds or the fog that is moving and stuff.

Um, the way it's like overlooking maybe even the town maybe.

Oh, is that what you're talking about? Like the town that's like zoomed out and the, the pyramids on the top of it? I thought that was like the other dimension.

She's creepy and she's spooky

Uh, apparently the doctor was in, uh, Miracle, The Fog, The Day After Tomorrow.

Uh, is it Aviator? The Aviator?

I think it ran for about almost 10 years in the 70s.

She also appeared in a lot of sci-fi fiction, including The Fog, Escape from New York, Creepshow, Swamp Thing, the voice of Catwoman in the DC animated universe.

Wow.

She also appeared in the HBO series Carnival, I guess, or Carnivale, whatever.

Job is radio.

So I was thinking, of course, of Stevie Wayne, fellow Stephanie, of course, from The Fog.

i used to love watching those like horror um like ambiance asmr like youtube videos that are just like little 3d animations on a loop and they'll have like different horror franchise ones and like the one for the fog is like

so for instance like Dead Air the very first one like kind of that was influenced by The Fog like I loved the thing about you know Adrian Barbeau up in the lighthouse in The Fog you know Stevie Wayne and so and or sometimes there's like a vibe that you want to go for and then you'll go in a completely different way like you know if there was something that I particularly like got a feeling from or But there's kind of sometimes where I look back and oh, somebody would say, oh, this is very, you know, you would get a comment from a listener going, oh, I'm getting real.

Because there's one we did called Gratitude is in the Now.

And then somebody said, oh, it's like I'm getting a real wicker man feeling off this.

you know, because if you do a vampire story, you're going to be compared to other vampire stuff.

If you do a folk horror thing, more than likely you're going to get compared to like The Wicker Man or Midsommar.

If you do anything set on the radio station, you might get The Fog or Pontypool.

So there's exactly what you said, Chris, like there's even though a story might be unique a setting or a tone will be similar to something else

I'll say another one.

Another little honorable mention, and it's, I'm, I know I'm wearing the tea for this one, is The Fog as well.

Halloween and The Fog.

Like you say, they're, they're up there.

All these characters are fantastic, and it was hard to kinda rank them to be honest with you.

But at number eight I've got Stevie Wayne from The Fog, played by Adrienne Barbeau.

And she is, she's kind of the main protagonist of the story.

It's an ensemble cast, but everything is, like, through her so to speak.
