Oh, and also, I wonder if Olivia could get nominated for another Best Actress award because she was already nominated and won for The Favorite several years ago, which I believe she beat out Glenn Close that year.
B
82:32Brett CollinsHOST
That was kind of shocking.
B
82:34Brett CollinsHOST
It was a little bit sad for Glenn at the time.
B
82:37Brett CollinsHOST
But if you've seen The Favorite, which Olivia Colman won for that year, the Oscar was well-deserved.
B
82:43Brett CollinsHOST
She was incredible in that movie.

There is just something about Olivia Colman that is so lovable in anything she does.

cinema but I remember seeing my friend Charlie and it was right in that October phase when you know the Oscar race is just taking shape you know after the major awards sorry the major festivals and yeah and going in thinking oh this is what Glenn Close is going to win her Oscar for and I remember being distinctly underwhelmed by the whole thing and this was one or two months before I saw the favourite so I remember being kind of hyped up for it in the way that Oscar bait films tend to hype you up and then going away thinking, right, okay, so she's going to win for that.
W

And I hadn't seen it since.

E

And I just sort of thought that apart from doing The Favourite, which again is set a few hundred years later than that, we haven't really done anything kind of along that vein at all.
E

So, yeah.

Among those directors I just listed, there are several masterpieces from them collectively, including Breaking the Waves, Irreversible, Climax, and The Favourite.

But more often than not, I'm always feeling as if modern filmmakers like these guys are just trying so hard to shock and disturb.

It not only feels as if they have contempt for their characters, but for the audience who decides to watch them.

You know, Bridgerton owes so much to Marie Antoinette.

I think even someone like Yorgos Lanthimos, I think, you know, Poor Things and The Favourite definitely owe... something to my internet and I think for my generation for women kind of maybe slightly older and slightly younger as well it does kind of you get that sensation of reaching through the screen and you know who this young woman is we're not all the queen of friends but you kind of see that like lostness i think and it it really isn't a film about french history so much as it's a film about a teenage girl and that's why i really like resonate why it resonates with me and i think why i've kind of gone on a journey with it as i get older as a teenager i thought it was it was preposterous i was i was a very very self-serious teenager so

I think most people that are fans of Little White Lies when they think of Marie Antoinette and Little White Lies they will think of course of Hannah Strong's Forever Young Sophia Coppola book but perhaps forget that back in the day there was an issue of Little White Lies on Marie Antoinette that you know is gorgeous cover for people that are watching or if you can google but um perhaps hasn't aged perfectly I
H
22:48Hannah StrongGUEST
wouldn't say it's aged like a fine wine um yeah I mean I We sometimes do talk about Little White Liars because the magazine's been around a long time now and it is funny to go back and look at when the magazine was finding its identity throughout the early years.

Now, if you somehow do not know Olivia Colman, she is Britain's national treasure, an Academy Award winner for The Favourite, an Emmy winner, the kind of performer who can break your heart and make you laugh in the same scene, and Alexander chose to wear her portrait like a fan at a concert.
