J.R. FryerGUEST

And I would probably go with cinema more than anything.
J.R. FryerGUEST
12:42
And with Benson and Moorhead, for example, Resolution or The Endless.
J.R. FryerGUEST
12:47
In Resolution, it's a very tight, claustrophobic beginning where one character is basically trying to help another, you know, detox.
J.R. FryerGUEST
13:00
It's basically kidnapped it.
J.R. FryerGUEST
13:12
And they realize that they're in a completely different story.
J.R. FryerGUEST
13:15
And it's almost like a meta story.
J.R. FryerGUEST
13:18
And the same with the Endless.
J.R. FryerGUEST
13:21
The characters receive a tape from the death cult that they used to belong to.
Jason FryerGUEST
67:45
And speaking of Cronenberg, in many ways, not just David Cronenberg, but Brandon Cronenberg, his son, created some really interesting movies that I think could go into the cult vein.
Jason FryerGUEST
68:02
For other, I would say, Brendan and Moorhead, who have done Spring and Resolution and The Endless.
Jason FryerGUEST
68:11
I think they could do a really nice, surreal version of Cult.
Jason FryerGUEST
68:16
And I am currently trying to convince Mary San Giovanni, who writes Modern Cosmic Horror.
Jason FryerGUEST
21:00
They will scare themselves, and you've just got to give them that little push, and they will terrify themselves.
Jason FryerGUEST
21:09
But for media, recently, probably be Benson and Moorhead, directors who have done Spring, Resolution, and The Endless, and a couple of other films.
Jason FryerGUEST
21:24
They deal with the existential dread and cosmic horror, but in a more modern perspective.
Jason FryerGUEST
21:30
And I just love the way that they use their cinematography and their character interactions just to build these hidden narratives, and you're filling in, again, the anticipation, you're filling in the spaces.
David WartmannMODERATOR
39:20
You don't know what to look at because everything is just shiny and flashy and sprinkly, I feel like.
Jason FryerGUEST
39:27
I find that a lot of the movies with a smaller production value can actually be some of the best because they can't show the monster but they still have to invoke fear and we were talking about this last night Moorhead and Benson and Moorhead who have done Resolution and The Endless you rarely see the monster but you are just terrified because you know it's there and you know what it can do But they have a very small budget, so they can't show that.
Jason FryerGUEST
40:01
So they had to find narrative ways to inspire fear without going for the throat, so to speak.
Scott DorwardGUEST
40:09
I know it's a different
Ash MillmanHOST
21:54
I'm going to sound like I don't know what I'm talking about here because all the things I like about it...
Ash MillmanHOST
21:58
Early example of screen life horror, one of my and yours ultimate faves of found footage style in our favourite sub-genre, which is found footage.
Ash MillmanHOST
22:08
Early example of screen life horror... fucking love that that it's all done through video calls it's you know it's so relevant now as well it's one of those things that could feel so dated but because like we've become into this internet age going back and watching it's so fun because it's like oh this is just how people interact now as well but equally um yeah the alien stuff really frightening oh to give the rundown of the plot it is actually no josh do you want to do this one I
Josh BrownHOST
22:34
can do this one.
Josh BrownHOST
22:53
She's waking up with bruises and cuts and all of that, and then she kind of quickly realizes that she's being haunted by an extraterrestrial or extraterrestrials in her house.
Josh BrownHOST
23:06
But towards the end, it's actually revealed that the guy that she's speaking to doesn't live in another city.
Josh BrownHOST
23:12
He's actually in cahoots with the aliens, and they're using the woman to... earth alien spawn and that's why she keeps waking up because they have to wipe her memory every time something happens or she has an encounter and it turns out at the end as well that this is happening to a bunch of women all over America and he's skyping them every night and kind of keeping up this catfish style facade.
Ash MillmanHOST
23:39
Yeah, and this is directed by Joe Swanberg as well, who's like the big micro-budget mumblecore filmmaker, as they say.
Trip KeeperHOST
9:40
I'd consider it as it's a very decent source of income.
Trip KeeperHOST
9:45
I recommend anybody, if you guys are like, struggling with anything and you guys just have a niche idea or you just want to read trip reports or read horror stories you know give it a shot you know give youtube a shot because you never know the algorithm could hit you in the right way i just watch i saw the movie other mommy um And it was one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life.
Trip KeeperHOST
10:07
But I saw a review for it.
Trip KeeperHOST
10:10
And it was from this woman.

8 MINS LATER

Trip KeeperHOST
18:34
But yeah, there's a lot of stories.
Trip KeeperHOST
18:36
I like to write stories.
Trip KeeperHOST
18:38
I wrote also 27 pages of Carnival of Souls remake movie script for it because I love that movie.
Trip KeeperHOST
18:45
I think it should be – it's one of those movies that could be remade if it's done right.
Daniel BayerHOST
17:52
Ah, é, cê me falou, cê já falou dele aqui já.
João CarvalhoHOST
17:54
É, que é o The Endless.
João CarvalhoHOST
17:56
O primeiro chama Resolution.
Daniel BayerHOST
17:58
Resolution.
João CarvalhoHOST
18:00
E o segundo chama The Endless.
João CarvalhoHOST
18:03
The Endless pa-- veio pro Brasil, foi traduzido como O Oculto, que é uma tradução merda, porque ele devia cha-- porque The Endless é exatamente isso, o sem fim, cê entende? Por que que ele não termina?
Daniel BayerHOST
18:13
Uhum.
João CarvalhoHOST
18:13
Por que ele se repete?
CraigHOST
18:17
And then I watched one that...
CraigHOST
18:21
Very ambitious movie called The Endless, where these two guys, they're brothers, they kind of escape from this UFO death cult.
CraigHOST
18:30
I'm doing that in quotations.
CraigHOST
18:32
UFO death cult.
NicoleHOST
19:40
It sounds like a bad idea.
CraigHOST
19:42
But very culty.
CraigHOST
19:43
And then, like, I hate to spoil too much in case somebody wants to watch The Endless.
CraigHOST
19:47
There's, like, some sort of weird, like, time paradox kind of element to it where people get caught in loops.
Johnny WolfensteinHOST
60:40
And Michael Felker, the director and the writer of this, is the editor of their films.
Johnny WolfensteinHOST
60:47
So the films, you know, Spring, Resolution, The Endless.
Johnny WolfensteinHOST
60:57
I'm forgetting like one or two others.
Johnny WolfensteinHOST
61:01
What are the other ones they did? Synchronic, Something in the Dirt.
Adam PalcherHOST
32:46
It's great.
Adam SherlockHOST
32:47
Uh, The Endless.
Adam SherlockHOST
32:48
Um, and then our, uh, uh, forgotten gem will be the movie The, uh, Cure, I think it's called, um, which is a Asian film.
Adam SherlockHOST
32:57
