The Empyrean

We need to give a spoiler warning.

We will be discussing all of Threshing Day in the Empyrean series, including anything Rebecca Yarosa said in interviews.

If we reference another series spoiler, we will give a spoiler sound in the episode so you

can skip ahead.

Take us

in.

All right, scribes, we're heading back to Bazgaia for 13 threshing stories featuring some of our favorite Empyrean characters.

And apparently, finding your dragon involves a lot more blood, trauma, and suspiciously specific personality tests than we realized.

Yeah, and that timeline is the first major clue to the studio's strategy here.

Amazon MGM Studios snapped up the rights to Rebecca Yarros' Empyrean book series back in 2023.

Right.

Which was ages ago in Hollywood time.

Yeah.

The article outlines the sheer volume of material Yarros is providing.

The Empyrean series is mapped out as a five-book saga.

We already have Fourth Wing and Iron Flame from twenty twenty-three.

Let's put it on my 27 books to read in 2027 list.

Um, I have The Empyrean, um, by Rebecca Yarros on here because, as you know, I s- have still not read Onyx Storm.

Um, then I have the Letters of Enchantment duology, which is the Ruthless, Ruthless Rivals, I think is the title of the first one.

Um, I ha- I listened to it on audio, and I have the second one on audio, um, ready to go for the day I feel like I'm in the mood for it.

So if you're here from the future, tell us what we got right or drastically wrong.

If you can't tell, this is part of our Massive Massverse Mayhem Crash Course Season where we recapped and summarized the ACOTAR series, cover favorite ACOTAR Throne of Glass and Crescent City moments, world building and lore breakdowns, ACOTAR 6 theories, and more before the sequels release on October 27th, 2026.

And once A Court of Splendid Harmony is here, we'll be right by your side to recover from the inevitable cliff hangover before A Court of Forgotten Melody releases on January 12th, 2027.

And yes, we will be updating our theories between releases.

This is your official spoiler warning for the entire Massverse.

If you haven't read A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, and Crescent City series in their entirety, then we recommend pausing this video and checking out our ACOTAR 6 Theories episode without Massverse spoilers, which can be found in Season 2, Episode 12.

Please feel free to return to this episode once you are all caught up in the books.

Due to the nature of these books, this podcast is obviously rated R in content and language.

Uh, but yeah, this is a, a drop-in.

It is a short story collection about riders and their dragons, and because it is, of course, from the Empyrean series, uh, you know, Rebecca Yarros's very famous books about dragons, it is doing things.

It's already number one on the Publisher's Weekly overall list, number one in the New York Times hardcover fiction, over 850,000 copies in its first week.

Of course, the discourse that I have also seen-

Right.

So we are talking about the Empyrean universe, beginning with Fourth Wing.

This is the property that reached absolute critical mass and sparked this current frenzy.

It's the crown jewel.

That is not just a high-profile credit, it is a highly specific stylistic marker for a show.

It is the ultimate decoder ring for Prime Video's strategy here.

Think about the structural DNA of the Empyrean series.

Yes, it has dragons.
