The East Palace

No, they are everywhere.

Alongside the YA phenomenon of Wednesday, the report notes they have an R-rated dark fantasy series called The East Palace that is currently generating massive buzz for a second season.

So they are playing in every sandbox.

They are aggressively pushing into every single tonal quadrant: prestige drama, action blockbusters, dark adult fantasy, and YA romance all simultaneously.

Yes.

I did binge a show, a Korean show called The East Palace on 1.25 speed.

And I enjoyed it.

And I would recommend that.

And McKellen's so good that even in fucking X-Men 3, a very bad movie that even other good actors kind of flounder around in, he still, you know, brings some genuine heat where, you know, just random shit like, hey, man, where's your ink? And he shows a Holocaust tattoo and it's like, oh, yeah, no, he's still got the fastball.

However, I want to talk about some other television that I've been watching because randomly I stumbled upon this thing on Netflix called the East Palace.

I've had

this in my list for a couple weeks now.

I have no idea if they're wanting to make more limited series seems to tell me that it's done.

But I mean, look, after watching this, I would happily watch six seasons in a feature film.

So for anyone who's not aware, the East Palace is a South Korean dark fantasy horror mystery series about a, not a monk, but a spiritual sort of exorcist.

He's not quite a shaman.

true.

All right, before we go, what are you watching? So I did not make any progress with East Palace, but I did finish another Japanese book, and it's called The Lucky Ride by Yasushi Kitagawa.

And it starts out as a magical realism book about this magical taxi, but it's really about how each generation creates luck and opportunity for the next generation.

It's actually really, really good.

I feel like maybe he doesn't get the acclaim that some of the others do because they're so much more famous, but he's terrific.

Hey, before we go, what are you watching? So I'm about halfway through East Palace on Netflix, and I'm loving it.

Nam Joo Hyuk is wonderful.

It's a very different role for him.

The Mad About You one just, uh, ended up nowhere doing nothing.

Uh, by the way, the name of that Korean show I was referencing was The East Palace.

It's on Netflix, and it's, uh, pretty cool-

All right
