She came on sort of towards the end of the director's cut, so we did have to temp with some stuff, and that came from, again, those playlists I was talking about earlier.

And I would look at bands like The Durutti Column and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, these ambient, post-punk, synth-pop bands from in and around Manchester, bands I'd never heard of before, and bands a- ashamedly never heard of before, and bands that I've now listened to on repeat, you know, since the film's come out, and we would use those bands as the temp.

And when Morgan came in, she sort of really brought everything together and really gave the music, the eclectic music that we have from Manchester, from Call Me Maybe, from George Michael, and, and sort of really brought it all together, gave the film, like, this really sort of cohesive emotion and this real sort of sensitive beating heart.

So we've just been talking about leaning into the musical aspect of the movie.

They'd automate filter sweeps mid-mix to create evolving textures.

A great example is the Durutti Column's use of reverb filled cello and sparse piano, where Hannett applied a long decay that almost feels like a second instrument.

That layering technique added emotional weight without adding new instruments.

When you listen to Happy Mondays in their early days, you hear how they pushed the studio as a creative playground.

sometimes they're very personal for Paul presumably Polly was some girl he knew or whatever he's written quite a lot about Anthony Wilson in fact very movingly I think he's written about Wilson and his friendship with Anthony Wilson Tony Wilson but he calls him Anthony it's quite nice for Anthony what's it called is it a pad for Anthony he's a whole album devoted to Anthony Wilson or Tony Wilson yeah they were friends and Wilson Ian Vertical was believed in Daruti so Daruti was pretty much the first band that Factory Records ever really signed yeah first band to play at the Hacienda nightclub, or band, individual, plonking about in the background, or not plonking, it's the wrong word, but yeah, Wilson encouraged, worked with Martin Hannant on the first album, allowed Hannant to bring his Hannantisms to this weird little guitar player, and the Return of the Druid Economy is a very distinctive And timeless record, and that's the thing about the Druidic column.

At their best, they are completely, they're so far removed from everything else, they are timeless.

I suppose he would never have talked about it in those terms, I suspect.

I think Robert Smith did one and the Psychedelic Furs, I think, played when he was curating.

Grace Jones curated, you know, and so he's curating currently, this is 2026, and the Daruti Column, obviously we said that Vinnie Riley is a frail old man now, but there was an evening of songs, you know, of the Daruti Column played as part of that festival, which is lovely, really, to think that in the Royal Festival Hall, and I assume they played in the main venue.
