Can you tell me just a little bit more about that? What did that mean? What did you want to be and who were your influences back then?

Well, at those times, it would have been the Drifters, and it would have been singers like Lord Price, Chuck Berry, some of those kind of guys.

I got a degree in music, so music is my love.

I, uh, I'm a singer.

Jackie Wilson was around at that time.

Yeah.

the Drifters, you know, all of those groups.

But if you remember, Jeff, all of those folks also had horrible reputations for drug addiction.

It's like 1962, and they've just gone through M- Coltrane and Mingus and the MJQ and, and John Coltra- uh, I'm sorry, uh, Ray Charles, and, like, I mean, just iconic, like, really big, and The Coasters and The Drifters, and their big pop stuff, and now they have no hits, and Bert saves the label.

Right.

Um, did you, do you remember kind of people coming to, to see, do you remember seeing bands during the Troubles?

Well, The Drifters were regular visitors to Derry, to the Rialto, and they just loved playing because obviously, there's a huge soul community there, and people love the soul bands and the live bands, as I said.

And they used to come regular to, to the, you know, Rialto, which is now the Millennium.

Yeah.

But so we s- we were brought to those, um, concerts.

No matter who played, from, you know, Dickie Rock to Nancy Griffith to The Drifters, um, to The Undertones or The Moondogs, we were taking the, any- anything that was coming to the town.
