And when I first saw this back in the day, I'd never read The New Adventure of Human Nature, so I had no idea what to expect.
R
2:08Rob IrwinHOST
And I was just blown away, particularly by the second part, where the John Smith version of The Doctor turns back into The Doctor.
R
2:17Rob IrwinHOST
And he becomes this sort of avenging angel, taking out the family of blood, who are real rotters, you know? You want them taken out.
R
2:25Rob IrwinHOST
I don't need the Doctor to be like this every week, but once in a while, I like to be reminded that the Doctor can be like this and use his ruthlessness that's just there under the surface to really deal with bad people.
R
2:39Rob IrwinHOST
I really like that.
R
2:40Rob IrwinHOST
I don't need him to have a goatee and ride a motorbike and wear a leather jacket to be an avenging angel, but...
R
3:10Rob IrwinHOST
It was just an extraordinary thing.
R
3:12Rob IrwinHOST
The Dalek in the junkyard, the special effect of the Dalek shooting people and seeing the sort of the animated skeleton inside them, all of that stuff.

you know and yeah okay I'm not a big fan of Mind Warp but I think I would have preferred just four separate stories for that season rather than the big trial I think because it just doesn't deliver I don't think
D
3:04DylanHOST
It would be interesting if they'd done the three stories and they'd been happening and you don't cut back to the courtroom and then there's like a final story where they reveal it's been a trial all the time or the doctor's put on trial and they just do little flashbacks to the stories and go, six episodes ago, you did that.
D
3:24DylanHOST
Why did you do that? It's almost like a plot twist that later on we learn that it's been a trial all along.
M
3:31Mark RawlinsGUEST
Something like that, yeah.
M
8:17Mark RawlinsGUEST
And he turns up a lot in a few books, doesn't he? It's always this...
M
8:21Mark RawlinsGUEST
They sort of try and fit it round.
M
8:24Mark RawlinsGUEST
Isn't there the book where the Doctor tries to avoid being the Valiard and that's why he's supposed to have his regeneration? He's sort of like the classic series war doctor, isn't he? Yeah.
M
8:36Mark RawlinsGUEST
Basically.

Um, you know, there's, but there's, there's, there's bits that lift it up.

That wasn't like a, "Right, okay, well, if you had enough time, the Doctor could probably rig up something." You, you can kind of explain it.

Although, I think what's happening is I think this is where you can see all the issues that Steven Moffat was having in Series 5-

Mm

... or that the production team were having in Series 5, because clearly a lot of people were trying to make Russell T. Davies' Doctor Who, and the BBC wanted Russell T. Davies' Doctor Who.

And I don't think Steven Moffat gets to make Steven Moffat Doctor Who until the year after, or...

Doctor Who: Remembrance of the Daleks REVIEW - Who Wee Ood #116
B
6:11BenHOST
the cart mill master plan yes can you elaborate on the cart mill master plan
C
6:19CamHOST
so the master plan was are you are you saying this for the audience or you're saying it for yourself both So the master plan, Cutman master plan was this idea of, he always thought that the Doctor now at this point, him and the writers were like, all right, the Doctor does not have enough mystery to him.
C
6:36CamHOST
We know who this guy is because we've been dealing with him for 25 years now.
C
6:40CamHOST
Let's bring back more of that mystery that he had in that first season, the first couple of seasons.
B
7:28BenHOST
Yeah.
B
7:30BenHOST
I mean, I know... little bit of just like conceptually what you've told me over the years but it's interesting
C
7:39CamHOST
i definitely agree with them though like the sentiment of it of what's the the doctor needs something more to him because at this point the doctor has been so friendly or not so friendly with colin at some point but like we're gonna use the doctor now let's give him a little bit more mystery let's give him something more of a character
B
7:58BenHOST
yeah it just helps that sylvester is very good at playing that darker side of the doctor and that mysterious side of the doctor very well in a very sharp contrast to season 24

Don't forget that we've got a free 15-minute drama tease of the latest four Doctor Adventures coming up and starring Tom Baker as the Doctor and Sadie Miller as Sarah Jane Smith.

Gosh, yes, I nearly forgot.
B
42:41Benji CliffordHOST
I nearly jumped out of my skin there.
A

And obviously the Master originated in the Third Doctor's era on TV, and so the characters deeply entwined.
A
44:54Alfie ShawSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
with, you know, the Third Doctor and UNIT and all the extended universe of that era of the show.
A
45:00Alfie ShawSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
So the fact that we are the first to do so in a full cast setting is a real honour and interesting to have to try and coordinate which different versions of the Master is coming into contact with the Doctor because it's after the Delgado So the Doctor doesn't recognize the Master to begin with because of everything that the character's gone through since.

I just thought, I wonder how this compares with how polls have gone in the past.
J
2:57JR SouthallHOST
And so what I did was I took the four major Doctor Who magazine polls, which I screenshotted years and years ago and have kept in a folder, and I worked out...
J

if you put together the places, the rankings, for the top ten or so Tom Baker stories, how they would have come out from the Doctor Who magazine polls.
