M- m- people who know him rate him correctly, but he's very underknown in the broader movie watching community.

Um, also picked up The Dirties, um, 'cause that was quite cheap from- Oh, I got that from Easy DVD actually, and 'cause it's been very, very hard to find.

Like, nearly impossible to find.

It's, you can't get it on JB website or anything anymore, and it was 37 bucks so I grabbed that, and probably one of the last ones in the country to be honest, 'cause I've heard a lot about it.

yeah it's not the big cheese for me it's a tasty little treat but it's no big cheese i just love it it just it's not that it's a lesser film it really depends on what kind of style do you like and as we like establish this is a very different style than what we're used to from matt johnson it doesn't make it worse i could see it being some maybe some people watch the other movies and they're like yeah it's a little bit too crazy for me a little bit not serious enough for me

I mean, I'm going to read some stuff, but I'm just saying my personal familiarity is not steep.

But they have been in the industry as a filmmaker for well over, you know, was this 15 years now? Their first feature film was called The Dirties that came out in 2013.

I found it years ago on SBS On Demand here in Australia, an excellent free streaming service, by the way, and tore through both seasons before realizing it wasn't actually my first encounter with these guys.

Years earlier, I'd watched Matt Johnson's debut feature, The Dirties, after Kevin Smith helped release it through his movie club.

I know I'm talking a lot about Matt Johnson in an episode called Jay McCarroll, but creatively, the two are pretty inseparable.

They've been making Nirvana together for nearly two decades, and Jay is an incredible musician and composer in his own right who has scored every single one of Matt's feature films.

Oh yeah.

And I still got to see the dirties and some of the others.

And then I go back and watch the series and I'm like, oh my God, what these guys are doing with such a small budget.

Like they just really love this.

yeah like to me matt johnson's career has always been like kind of niche for the most part i remember the dirties um watching that and it kind of reminded me of uh like clerks because of its low budget feel which is funny to say because kevin smith is what kind of promoted that movie right to like more relevancy of festival runs and stuff like that so after dirties he makes operation avalanche then blackberry yeah and blackberry to me is like oh we're we're on a bigger budget you know and he's more comfortable in that state of mind so after nirvana banned the show the movie and now tony i feel like tony's like even bigger than ever

the sky is the absolute limit for matt johnson after this like he he's absolutely crushing i love his style even like you know a movie like blackberry which is like could be like a very cheesy movie.

Like, oh, it's like just kind of like a nostalgia
