The Dirties

In my equation, I'll go ahead and kick us off because I already talked about a couple of the movies here.

The first film is another found footage movie that I actually quite like called The Dirties, directed by Matt Johnson, which is one half of Nirvana the band, the comedy duo.

It was a film that he made in the early 2010s that is also a found footage film that also deals with bullying and high school stuff.

I don't really want to spoil it because I think it's a movie that benefits the less you know about it.

That's a lot more grand and epic and crazy than this movie is.

This is a lot more kind of narrow in its scope.

And then I'm adding that with Carrie, which again, I think is a really obvious influence here of... somebody gets bullied and they're they have a telepathic powers and they get pushed too far and they end up you know using their abilities uh kind of reaping what the world has sowed right really harming this person having this abusive parental relationship and then that kind of manifests in this horrible tragedy that obviously happens um in carrie i like that both of these don't really treat it as like a you know oh he got him he got the bullies you know it's not like a heroic moment it's for both of them it's like a really sad tragic moment um so yeah uh the dirties times to the square root of akira plus carry

yeah no uh that's what i was alluding to uh with the opening letterbox so the ending was definitely giving a little bit of tetsuo It was definitely just that.

the Dirties, and they came to me basically saying, we can't show this movie because we have legal issues.

And the legal issues are that there's particular... um branding of architectural stamps in blueprints and the only the way that we can actually debut this movie is if we remove the branding you're a compositor right and i said uh yeah and they had been in my apartment visiting my roommate and i was always playing video games and like in my own silo but they had pieced this together and so i said uh on a whim yeah no no problem i'll paint out these issues and they're like okay but the only catch is it's due tomorrow And we're debuting tomorrow.

Oh, no.

Anyway.

But then our film teacher at Humber was Matthew Miller.

Who we found out was producing The Dirties, like Matt Johnson's debut feature.
