Christian RennerHOST
70:18
This is their second, and they are on Earache Records, so they are on a pretty sizable label.
Christian RennerHOST
70:25
And if you're a fan of The Darkness, Greta Van Fleet, or The Struts, you're going to dig The Bites.
Christian RennerHOST
70:32
This here is one that...
Christian RennerHOST
70:34
I would call girlfriend music.
Eric DrassHOST
26:35
well I think when we get to what I believe is number one in this chart I think there's something to be said about the blandification of British tastes in this year
JR SouthallHOST
26:43
spoilers I'd say nothing that's not the only one on the way either At number seven, The Darkness, Permission to Land.
JR SouthallHOST
26:53
This is a one-joke band.
JR SouthallHOST
26:55
How the hell did they ever have a massive Christmas here?
JR SouthallHOST
27:16
I may be misremembering, but I think this is correct.
JR SouthallHOST
27:20
I was at Reading one year, and the opening band for the entire festival was Mercury Rev doing...
JR SouthallHOST
27:27
I'm not sure it was quite their very first... gig in the uk but it must have been near as damn before the original singer left and because they were on stage at reading they had the whole majorettes thing going on as well and they went off and the darkness came on and it couldn't have been more different going from one of those to another it was so bizarre The majorettes went off, because obviously they finished, Mercury Rev finished with the majorettes and that, and then out comes the darkness and launches into whatever the song was, which we will talk about later.
JR SouthallHOST
28:01
Very strange.
Robin AllenderHOST
36:39
That's cool.
Robin AllenderHOST
36:40
I mean, this has got a weird one, but w- I mean, what do you think of The Darkness? I mean, some of, you know-
Jake CrawfordGUEST
36:45
I love The Darkness.
Robin AllenderHOST
36:46
Okay, cool.
Robin AllenderHOST
36:47
[laughs] Yeah.
Robin AllenderHOST
36:48
Yeah, yeah.
Jake CrawfordGUEST
36:49
As, as every other 11-year-old s- you know, like, when that came out for me, I was like, "Yeah, this is the sickest thing ever." 'Cause I was already so into- What was already classic rock at that point, you know, your AC/DC, your Zeppelins, your Sabbaths, all of that stuff, like I was, I kind of got brought up on.
Jake CrawfordGUEST
37:03
So when The Darkness came out, I was like, "Holy shit, this is, people are getting into this", which kind of really validated me 'cause I'd never really had many friends that I could kind of share that love with, 'cause they were all just into, you know, Eminem at that point essentially.
DaveHOST
4:15
Mm-hmm.
DuncanHOST
4:15
Um, first and foremost, and it's not the same genre, but, um, this reminds me of the debut album from The Darkness.
DaveHOST
4:24
Right.
DuncanHOST
4:24
Like, when it dropped, in every single song you were like...

23 MINS LATER

DaveHOST
26:59
Yeah, yeah
DuncanHOST
26:59
... to conquer.
DuncanHOST
27:00
With The Darkness was never gonna conquer America.
DaveHOST
27:02
[laughs]
speaker_4SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
28:31
The will is to resist.
speaker_4SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
28:34
So I embrace the darkness.
speaker_4SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
28:40
'Cause it's always real.
speaker_4SOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
28:46
Give me an open fire.

5 MINS LATER

Brad GnadenHOST
33:49
Yeah, right now we're back here and, uh, raring to go.
Brad GnadenHOST
33:52
Did you like that song, Smithy? I played that for you, to be honest.
Brad GnadenHOST
33:55
That was The Darkness, and a song as you are very familiar with, Open Fire.
Brad GnadenHOST
34:00
You were telling me you went to the, uh, the, the, um, concert for that, um, album.
Bob FescoHOST
17:31
I don't.
Bob FescoHOST
17:32
I don't like the darkness so early.
Bob FescoHOST
17:35
Four o'clock and it's like, ugh.
Dusty LikensHOST
17:36
You don't believe in a thing called love? I do.
Dusty LikensHOST
17:38
Just listen to the rhythm of the heart? Uh-huh.
Dusty LikensHOST
17:40
I think that's the darkness.
Dusty LikensHOST
17:41
I
Bob FescoHOST
17:41
believe, I believe, I believe in a thing called love.
Bob FescoHOST
17:00
I don't.
Bob FescoHOST
17:01
I don't like the darkness so early.
Dusty LikensHOST
17:03
Mm.
Bob FescoHOST
17:05
4:00 and it's like, "Ugh."
Dusty LikensHOST
17:08
Just Listen to the Rhythm of My Heart?
Bob FescoHOST
17:09
Uh-huh.
Dusty LikensHOST
17:10
I think that's The Darkness.
Bob FescoHOST
17:11
I believe, I believe, I believe in a thing called love.
Dusty LikensHOST
0:23
I don't.
Dusty LikensHOST
0:24
I don't like the darkness so early.
Bob FescoHOST
0:26
Hm.
Dusty LikensHOST

Uh-huh.
Bob FescoHOST
0:33
I think that's The Darkness.
Dusty LikensHOST
0:34

DannyPANELIST
47:07

Callum OakleyGUEST
47:10
Mm-hmm.
Bryan QuinbyHOST
14:05
In a way that even, I'll say this, maybe this will be controversial, maybe you won't think this.
Bryan QuinbyHOST
14:11
I think I like Buckcherry more than I like The Darkness.
John CullenHOST
14:15
Okay.
Bryan QuinbyHOST
14:15
That's an opinion I hold.
John CullenHOST
14:16
I don't like The Dark, I don't like The Darkness either.
Bryan QuinbyHOST
14:17
So I used to really like The Darkness, because they were doing this.
Bryan QuinbyHOST
14:22
But I like this.
Bryan QuinbyHOST
14:23
This feels so sleazy.
