The Dark Backward

But this is info straight from the mouth of one of the writers, a guy called Adam Rifkin.

A film writer and director known for films such as Small Soldiers and Mouse Hunt, well he had, worked with the awesome actor Bill Paxton on a film called The Dark Backward.

Now Paxton, who many people know from Aliens, knew what a big movie fan Rifkin was and that Rifkin was a fan of a man named Walter Hill.

And Paxton introduced Rifkin to Walter Hill.

So I wrote my first screenplay right after dropping out of college.

I was 19, and that screenplay is called "The Dark Backward." I did not know how to go about trying to find money to get a movie made, so I would go through the Yellow Pages looking for the biggest ads.

Like, whatever companies had the biggest ads, I thought, "Well, they must have the most money.

This dentist has a full-page ad in the Yellow Pages.

So, and you know, this would, so a little bit of money would actually afford you the freedom to be able to hire people to help, so it's a little easier.

So, um, we a- we agreed to team up, and, uh, we, um, we started going to different production companies together and pitching it, and we weren't having any luck.

The Dark Backward's a very sort of oddball movie.

It's not a, a slam dunk by any stretch.

But it, but not, not the-

Is it, is it, is it The Dark Backward?

It made it a lot more enjoyable.

Um, then I watched The Dark Backward, which is a, a movie Maya and I went to the library by our places this week, and we both got library cards.

Nice.

And we're following in Jackson's footsteps.

Um- I got The Dark Backward 'cause it was on the shelf, like on a little display.

Oh.

Got a new Blu-ray release within the last two years.

And that is The Dark Backward from director Adam Rifkin.

Adam Rifkin is a name that nobody knows.

And he's always been a really low budget indie director.

That was kind of like his only, like his one shot with like movie stars in a like we could actually make money kind of way.

And then maybe his most well-known is a film from the early mid 2000s called Detroit Rock City starring Edward Furlong about a group of friends going to go to a Kiss concert.

But yeah, The Dark Backward is this film from 1991.

Has an insane cast.

Uh, yeah.

It's a film called The Dark Backward.

Now, this is an absolute gross-out thing, but it's unfunny.

Uh, it's a comedy.
