Well, when we think about a Wes Anderson film, we may imagine an extreme close-up of an actor showing little emotion, or we might think of that iconic shot of Gwyneth Paltrow descending from the Green Line bus in the Royal Tenenbaums, or we might even think about the three Whitman brothers in the Darjeeling Limited running, and they're tossing away their elaborately decorated costumes.

They're getting rid of their baggage.

He loves Truffaut, Godard, Louis Malle.

And he loves other filmmakers like Orson Welles and Akira Kurosawa, who he referenced in Isle of Dogs.

And he even dedicated Darjeeling Limited to Satya Jit Ray.

He also loves books, and his films are often books or book-related subjects.

I love it.

... and I am now a, a real, uh, appreciator of his work, maybe I will appreciate this film more.

I, I'm pretty sure I had never heard another Kinks song behind those two.

And in this scene, the, the opening of The Darjeeling Limited, a train is, is leaving.

We're in India.

Yeah.

So we're starting with The Darjeeling Limited by Wes Anderson.

Huge show.

Nice.

since ever since So this is a story of three brothers who are estranged.

And after their father died, their mother didn't show up to the funeral and basically disappeared.

They all are going on the Darjeeling Limited, which is a train in India, and basically to find their mother.

okay um and it's just a great great movie it's got all my favorite wes anderson things in that like the characters will say something that's quite obviously a metaphor for what's happening they're carrying their father's large monogrammed luggage everywhere at the end they go they're trying to run after the train they go dad's bags are like i don't think dad's bags are gonna make it or whatever and you're like oh yeah i don't know the train gets lost and one of the characters goes how can a train get lost it's on the tracks it's great it's a heartbreaking owen wilson performance some of his best i would argue um listen listen i think in total uh indian actors have 10 lines on this it's very not you know what i mean it's just not that i think again as with any wes anderson movie any criticism about it i do think is valid but i love writing that is about and i think what wes anderson does really well is writing that is about different kinds of relationships like brotherly relationships heartbreak and grief and all those things it's just really really good i love it it's one of my favorite wes anderson's to be honest it's just a great odyssey this train ride odyssey to find their mother
