The Company of Wolves is a 1988 surreal fairy tale about a young girl who gets her period when she falls asleep and she has a series of nightmares about how terrible men are.

First off, if you haven't listened to our second Werewolves of Summer, Company of Wolves, underrated gem but it it's the moment they get to the castle and then they start dispatching people and like all you know religious pilgrims and i was like all right at this point they're gonna kill peter cushing it's not gonna be a surprise

Future director Neil Jordan made a making-of documentary about Excalibur.

This explains a lot to me about that director's work on films like Interview with the Vampire or even more so The Company of Wolves, another 1980s dark fantasy movie, which I've covered before on this podcast.

Director Zack Snyder said this is his favorite movie ever.

I can kind of see that when I think about something like 300, you know? But he said Excalibur was a big influence for Batman versus Superman, Dawn of Justice.
