The Chaser

It's written and directed by Na Hong Jin.

I think most of us here would best know him for The Wailing, his previous work, but he's also known for The Yellow Sea, The Chaser.

I'm saying all these things before I get to the story because I think in some ways it's more important.

So the cinematography was done by Hong Kyung Pyo, who also did The Wailing, but did Parasite, Burning.

But I told her what we were going to talk about.

And she said, oh, it sounds like a short story called The Chaser.

And it's a story by a guy by the name of John Collier.

And it was published in the New Yorker in 1940.

Yeah, the writer-director for Hope is Nahong Jin.

I started watching his movies back in the late aughts with The Chaser in 2008.

I remember seeing that like right out of college, discovering it and being like, wow, this is crazy.

This is a filmmaker I got to pay attention to.

but i think i think the ending of the wailing satisfied everybody including myself and i watched that movie and i'm like well i didn't like x y and z but wow what a finish same with the chaser and i just watched the yellow sea this week that was his 2010 film There's a scene where a guy fights off a bunch of bad guys with knives and all he has is a turkey leg.

It's the craziest fight scene ever.

doubt I'm going to get it.

Yeah, he made The Chaser,

Yellow Sea, The Wailing.

He's a really good director.

Like, he just kept releasing absolute fucking banger movies.

His, um, his big first film, The Chaser in 2008-
