The Buccaneers

This person says, "I tried to go back through the descriptions of previous episodes, but I couldn't find anything, so I'm going to ask.

Have either of you watched The Buccaneers?"

No.

Never heard of it.

While Imperfect Women is about hiding in the modern day, this next pick is about boldly and loudly defying societal expectations in the past.

We are looking at our number four spot, The Buccaneers.

And it's really worth noting that according to Starzner, this also happens to be one of the steamiest, most vibrant shows on the entire Apple TV platform.

Which is such a brilliant juxtaposition against the rigid historical setting.

But before we analyze how the show looks and feels, we really have to unpack the literary context behind it because the backstory of the original author is arguably just as compelling as the narrative she created.

Oh, absolutely.

The Buccaneers is based on a novel by Edith Wharton.

Wharton is an absolute titan.

Uh, next, gonna be talking with Alison Thornton and, uh, Josie Totah.

Josie you remember from, uh, Jessie, Saved by the Bell, The Buccaneers, Champion, Faces of Death, Spider-Man: Homecoming.

We've seen Alison Thornton in, uh, Guiltless, Dare Me, Caught on His Web, The Mental State, Let It Snow.

Uh, they play the bullies.

Matthew wagers $7,000, and he gets the clue published posthumously in 1938.

Her The Buccaneers wasn't about pirates, but about love in the Gilded Age.

Matthew tries who is Stein and that is not correct.

It is Edith Wharton.

Guys, but you know.

Well, you know what I just recently watched and I got really into actually, and I avoided it when it first came out, but then I gave it a go, was The Buccaneers, which is on Apple TV, which is an Edith Wharton adaptation of an unfinished book.

And that has Alicia Bow in it, who was in 13 Reasons Why.

And she plays one of the central characters and they incorporate the fact that she is of mixed heritage, Afro-Latina heritage.

is the thing as well.

All of these books are all, you know, it's like, there's actually, yeah, they wrote books all around the world.

Until we see some more diversity, I'm looking forward to The Buccaneers season three.

So thank you for tuning in and happy listening via whatever medium is best for you.

They're up 23 to 19, and they can take a knee and-

and-... with a victory over the Buccaneers.

Oh, if Nick Shook's not gonna be happy, at least Andrew Siciliano is.

[laughs]

It is.

It is.

Thank you to, uh, to the Browns for bringing some joy, some surprise, and yeah, a one and one record in the, in the Buccaneers now at O and two.

So those are three monster upsets, at least by week two standard, to start the day.

good little ditty.

Before that, I did play The Stems, Tears Me In Two, and followed by The Buccaneers, You're Never Going to Love Me Anymore.

Yeah, yeah, that's right.

And then I went slightly garage as well then after Dam Buster and I went down to New Plymouth and stayed Aotearoa with The Breakaways from 1966 and a track called Travelled Man.
