The Blessing

I had to give myself the Heimlich maneuver once.

Mid-song, like, it's funny.

You can laugh.

I used to chew on gum while leading worship.

And I inhaled.

It went down my windpipe.

And it was mid-sentence of the song.

I turned around.

The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.

Blessings.

The blessings in Numbers 6 ask that the Lord would keep his people and make his face shine on them and be gracious to them.

At the heart of it, it's God's presence and favor.

Blessings isn't simply getting everything that we want.

[upbeat music] Hi there, it's Diane.

I have a solo episode this month, and we're gonna talk about The Blessing.

It is a gigantic song.

When I think about The Blessing, I'm like, first of all, I don't ever wanna sing it because [laughs] I'm never gonna do it justice.

But it was a song that was written by Cody Carnes, Elevation Worship, Kari Jobe, and it came out in 2020, which makes perfect sense because I remember this song just blowing up at that time.

People just obsessed with this song.

I know I was.

So I wanted to talk a little bit about this song, kinda jump into the biblical cont- the obvious biblical context, but if you are not an Old Testament lover [laughs] like myself, and you're just hanging out in the New Testament 'cause you think the Old Testament, you know, that's not my, that's not my deal, Diane.

Today is the 22nd day of December...

Wish they had a song for every month.

It would be so much more fun to say the date every day.

Welcome, everyone.

Recently...

I was having a hard day with this same issue and I was listening to praise and worship music as I often do.

And the song titled The Blessing by Kerry Jobe came on, which I've heard many times before.

But this time I heard God speak to me through the Holy Spirit, Lynn, I not only want you to love and forgive this person who has hurt you, I want you to bless them and pray for them.
