The Birchmere

Yeah.

Well, there's a sort of a, um, a club in DC that I play with my band pretty regularly called the Birchmere.

Okay.

And it's a, it's a, we're very lucky.

For a little while.

Yeah.

And, um, but yeah, the, The Birchmere is...

I mean, there's, there's tons of great, you know, little rooms around the world.

Totally.

You know, when we're at the Birchmere, when we're here, like it's just, I love doing it.

I always get annoyed and be like, I'm like, I don't want to do all this.

I just want to show up and do my number, you know, because I get so like doing the dancers costumes.

One of the things, other things that Tom brought up was, you know, he said, well, we didn't play at any really nice places.

And I never really thought about this, but, you know, by the time that Birchmere was really hopping in the late 70s and early 80s, buzz was somewhat on decline.

Tom, I don't know if we ever talked about this.

I don't think I ever asked you.

there any other gigs like that that could have happened or should have happened? I never thought about that until just now.

Well, he actually did get to play at the Birchmere once.

He got his SSI,

And the results are in for Best Live Music Venue.

The Birchmere took first, followed by the No. 9 Lounge at Evening Star Cafe, then the Light Horse Restaurant.

And this week's adoptable pet is Stallings, an 8-year-old dog in foster care through the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

A volunteer describes her as a 48-pound couch potato who loves people, treats, and a calm home, and would rather snuggle than play with toys.

and my family was there, so I would just return.

I wouldn't stop my music because I started playing at a place called the Birchmere, and I got my own band together.

I had a 13-piece band called Cle Francis and Friends, and we recorded a live album at the Birchmere there in Alexandria and had a big following.

People would fly in from all over the country.

I was performing twice a year.
