The Battle of Chile

I think people who don't recognize the name of Patricio Guzman have nevertheless seen at least a clip of his work.

He's perhaps best known for the film The Battle of Chile, La Batalla de Chile, which is a six-hour trilogy about the coup d'etat in Chile in 1973.

And so if you've seen black and white images of planes strafing the presidential palace, those come from that film.

The film as a whole has been called one of the most important political films, not just political documentaries of all time.

And it's a very different strategy from what he did in his early years.

It's an interesting contrast.

There are a couple of repeat appearances from the documentaries of the 70s, and so it is touching, too, to see those people show up again, and what they have to say now, and what the function of memory is, and what relationship there is between trauma and repression, which seems to be of increasing interest for him after the Battle of Chile.

It was very touching to see him struggling to make sense of things.
