I had a f- I had a fierce rejection to it, not just because of the popularity but because of the way people talked about it, and let me tell you how much I hated Leonardo DiCaprio's, um, Romeo + Juliet.

Like, I liked him in, in Basketball Diaries and in, like, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, but I hated Romeo + Juliet.

Um, and so when Leo-mania was in full force, I was very rejectful.

I watched it on TV when it finally hit, like, HBO or something like that, and I think you're right, Chris.

Blaming Marilyn Manson's music means you can slap a 15-second clip of the Shock Rocker in concert on the screen.

Condemning The Basketball Diaries is even better.

That allows producers to include an image of one of the world's hottest young movie stars, Leonardo DiCaprio, in their broadcast.

It fills time and it looks provocative.

Yeah, they were, they would shoot that stuff around here, too.

Like, they, they shot, like, Basketball Diaries.

I can't remember if it was at my wife's school or if it was at the, like, adjacent boys' school-

Mm-hmm

There is one of the music scenes, Robert Downey Jr. is playing drums for a punk band and the singer is Jim Carroll.

Basketball Diaries and all that.

Yeah.

I think this is great fun.

Yeah.

[laughs] In the movie, it's played by Leo from Basketball Diaries.

Yeah, he's just-

Wow.

I grew up watching him, like Goodfellas, Sopranos, Basketball Diaries.

And then I saw a picture of you two on Instagram.

I was like, lucky you.

And I had a little bit of a curiosity.

But at the same time, movies like New Jack City and Basketball Diaries kind of kept me from the drug side.

But I think my mental illness and depression got me more savoring the alcohol side.

Yeah.
