The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream

But I can still remember the feeling of disbelief I experienced as I tried to absorb the intent of the following quote by President Barack Obama.

He made this statement in his call to renewal address and also repeated it in his bestseller, The Audacity of Hope.

Here's what he said.

Which passages of Scripture should guide our public policy? Should we go with Leviticus, which suggests slavery is okay and that eating shellfish is an abomination? How about Deuteronomy, which suggests stoning your child if he strays from the faith? Or should we just stick to the Sermon on the Mount, a passage that is so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department, would survive its application.

It struck at the same chord as we look around and we barely recognize this country.

I want to quote from someone I probably shouldn't, which is Barack Hussein Obama, when he wrote in The Audacity of Hope that, call me, quote, "nativist," but I shouldn't need a translator to get my car fixed.

I shouldn't look around my country and feel like it doesn't appear to be a home anymore.

And that, that's that, that same underlying frustration that I think we're both tapping into.

At the North Korean guard tower? The North Korean guard tower? Yeah.

Godzilla's butt plug? Do you know what they do when they go there? They chant Audacity of Hope, and they sound just as stupid as the Islamo-Nazis with their five-day-a-yabba-dabba-doo.

That's for a cult, and it's built just like those other churches with no windows.

It's a cult, baby.

We'll get to that when we get to the end.

Um, number nine for me, I have The Audacity of Hope by one Barack Obama.

That's where I put that.

Oh, I had that up at three.

Yeah

... card kind of idea for these books matter.

I think, frankly, the presidential race then overwhelms The Audacity Of Hope.

I think he and the publisher and everyone else was surprised, like all of a sudden he's a candidate.

I thought we could read from a passage of his book, The Audacity of Hope, in which he writes about this first encounter with you over lunch.

[laughs] I haven't read this in a while.

I, I imagine it's been a minute.

The Audacity of Hope.

"Oh, Michelle was full of plans that day, on the fast track, with no time, she told me, for distractions, especially men, but she knew how to laugh, brightly and easily, and I noticed she didn't seem in too much of a hurry to get back to the office.

And there was something else, a glimmer that danced across her round, dark eyes whenever I looked at her, the slightest hint of uncertainty, as if deep inside she knew how fragile things really were, and that if she ever let go, even for a moment, all her plans might quickly unravel.

Let's talk a little bit about Mr. Hasan Piker.

Do you remember during the twenty sixteen campaign, Donald Trump allegedly is being supported by white supremacists, neo-Nazis, white fascists, KKK members, and so he was repeatedly asked to renounce David Duke.

He goes, "What are you talking about David Duke? You, you, you're not gonna renounce David Duke? What are you...

D-D-David Duke!" And he renounced him over and over and over again.

Here's Debbie Dingell from Michigan, who supports Abdul El-Sayed, not happy she's being asked about Hasan Piker as she was on CNN, number seventy-one.

In some other news out of Michigan, Congresswoman, while I have you, I want to get to Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan, uh, uh, Abdul El-Sayed, who now appears to be distancing himself somewhat from far-left influencer Hasan Piker after Piker's very controversial comments about American Jews.

El-Sayed said in a statement that, quote, "Nobody speaks for this campaign besides me and my campaign spokespeople," end quote, and he accused politicians and pundits of trying to make this race about a Twitch streamer.
