[laughs]

From the Architecture Foundation, this is Scaffold.

I'm Matthew Blunderfield.

Earlier this month, I made a trip out to Colchester to talk to my guest this week, the poet Holly Pester, about her new book, Cafes.

[laughs]

[laughs] Great.

Scaffold is an Architecture Foundation production.

I'm Matthew Blunderfield, and I make the show.

1993, I didn't realise this.

So basically, there's a couple of freshly qualified architects called Julia Barnfield and David Marks, and they enter a competition held by the Architecture Foundation, Times Newspaper, to design a temporary structure for the new millennium.

And they don't win the competition, but they still want to build it.

And they want to build it on the South Bank because Julia said she sees a statistic that half a million people walk across Westminster Bridge, take a photo of the Houses of Parliament, then walk back north.

So as a result, this interview is unusually meandering, but one that I think gives a compelling insight into how this artist thinks about his work and the world around him.

From the Architecture Foundation, this is Scaffold, I'm your host Matthew Blunderfield, and I invite you now to sit back, relax, and enjoy this ramble with the artist Richard Wentworth.

Hi,

I'm Richard Wentworth.

I'm sure it's a good fireplace.

Thank you.
