The Apostle

Robert Duvall made this movie after he'd really gotten deep in his faith.

It was called The Apostle, and it, it's a little bit of a convoluted story, okay?

[laughs]

I'm not even gonna get into it.

I think it's overlooked.

How about The Apostle from 2018? Gareth Evans directing.

Good movie.

The Apostle or Apostle? Oh, just Apostle, I think.

The 2018 Gareth Evans movie.

The Apostle is like a Robert Duvall movie from the 90s.

Correct.

He plays a 10 revivalist, I think.

That's an indie also.

Yeah, so that's an indie.

... well, we, you know, have alway- we love Westerns.

Our favorite movies are Westerns.

Mm-hmm.

And people doing what you're doing now for, for a living-

And, 'cause I, from my view, I thought, "Well, these, what are these, devil worshipers?"

[laughs] Yeah.

And, and I guess the most familiar I ever was, was, uh, 'cause Al was talking about the Clint Eastwood Westerns we watched, but he also did that movie, what w- what were the two movies? Any, any which-

Oh, yeah.

What was the other one? What was the

other one? We are putting that alongside a movie called The Apostle, which was released in 1997, starring Robert Duvall, directed by Robert Duvall.

Yes.

Yeah, yeah,

yeah.

How did The Apostle do, like, theatrically? Did it make money? Was it just sort of like a, eh, I'm happy I did it checkbox? I have no idea.

That's right, the movie was The Apostle.

Interesting movie.

And then one more just like it.

Titanic won the Oscar for Best Picture.

Best Actor, Dustin Hoffman, Wag the Dog, Peter Fonda, Uli's Gold, Robert Duvall, The Apostle, Jack Nicholson, As Good As It Gets, Matt Damon, Good Will Hunting.

have a feeling we've been here before.

And it was an early one that we watched with Robert Duvall.

It's called The Apostle.

Okay.

And it's worth watching because it's a great book to read, which we read early on, which really impacted us, called Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kings Clover, because it basically shows in a very dramatic form.

Yeah.

When did we first see him headline a show? Maybe, uh, "The Apostle"?

Mm.

You know what I mean? And he talks about what a great life it is 'cause it's often the better roles.

That means every area of society, wherever the Lord has equipped you and called you, be there as a living witness of what God almighty, what Yahweh can do in the life of a person who is committed to him.

There is a film currently showing, and I'm not recommending that you go see it because I don't, I don't, I know nothing about, as I said last night, it was back early fifties.

The last time I went to a movie and haven't felt like I missed a whole lot, but, um, there's a film showing called The Apostle.

Now, I think that the character in there is not the kind of apostle that you really want to commit your life to, but then I noticed yesterday, I took a copy of the Charisma magazine that came to David, and I noticed on the front, one of the articles in Charisma this month has to do with the faith of the gentleman who played the lead role, the role of the apostle, and also directed the film.

So if you haven't read it, David, I'd be interested in finding out about that.

But, you know, Hollywood is a strange place.
