That Texas Blood

I will note that Jacob Phillips is not back after we talked to him last time because he is personally offended that Joe keeps calling him Sean instead of Jacob on the show.

uh yes i am ratting you out joe i can't help myself but today we are talking about the gem that you two put together chris this was that texas blood was actually your first book like right

yeah so it's kind of a weird so brutal dark was actually technically the first thing we did oh published

But

it was just on the Patreon.

But Texas Blood was technically started first.

But because of the pandemic, we were put on hold.

So we were like, what are we going to do? So we started putting out Brutal Dark as a Patreon comic and then stopped when that Texas Blood got put back on.

There's one more issue coming out next month.

Uh, this is from Chris Condon of That Texas Blood, and Charlie Adlard of The Walking Dead fame, with Andrew Erick also doing some writing too, colors by Pip Martin, and letters by Hasan Otsmane-Elhaou.

Um, so this one is, it's Chris Condon, so obviously it's kind of a neo rural noir, right? Like, that's first of all.

But it's also kind of an eco horror book about oil rigs in, like, the middle of America, you know? And, and, uh, down, down in Texas, you know? Um, Tabby, Tabitha Black is the main character, and the book opens in issue one with her kind of, like, speeding down the highway with a, with a, with a box full of money and a gun that she's taken from her, like, you know, abusive boyfriend, and she's on the run.

And they're like-

What the fuck?

... "What the heck was that?" And it's this, and it's, like, the other thing that Chris Condon does, for those that read That Texas Blood, you'll know this, like, there's a lot of, like, back matter or front matter that kind of, like, fleshes out the world.

And there's this, like, urban legend about, like-

The horror book that he did with Jeffrey Allen Love, it was an astounding read and very unique.

I then dove into his other work, including That Texas Blood, which returns to comic stores on September 23rd.

And his other work from Vertigo, The Peril of the Brutal Dark, Ezra Kane mystery, as well as his newest book, Of the Earth, with Walking Dead artist Charlie Adler.

Chris is able to punch through different types of genres, suspense and thrillers kind of in all of his books.

But Peril of the Brutal Dark is a noir crime adventure book.

Of the Earth is just kind of straight up horror and a mix of crime.

And then That Texas Blood is slow burn, thriller, Western, obviously set in Texas.

I've enjoyed everything I've read of his.

And then I think the book that we have been looking forward to the most.

And if you've been paying attention to our socials, You know about an upcoming chat that we have, a book that we are very much excited for, and that is That Texas Blood, Hell Comes to Allison Ranch, issue one, written by Chris Condon with art by Jacob Phillips.

That Texas Blood is returning, people, in both comic book form and in television form.

that in the future.

But as of now, still in this moment, the comic has returned, baby.

And it's a great heist.

It's going to be a great heist story.

And I think when people get their hands on this book, they're going to be so frigging pumped that Texas Blood is back.

All right, up next, another fan favorite that's returning, That Texas Blood, finally getting new single issues.

Hell Comes to Allison Ranch, number one, is the first single issue of the series since December of 2022.

Interesting that the co-creators and collaborators, Chris Condon and Jacob Phillips, chose to change the name.

When it was first announced it was coming back, they were still calling it That Texas Blood.

I'm not sure why the change in title.

The subtitle, Hell Comes to Allison Ranch, but... maybe to differentiate seasons or what have you.

But anyway, the fact that it's the first issue in almost four years is definitely worth pointing out because, again, it is a fan favorite series.

Yes, we're here.

I'm very excited for this because we're going to be talking about that Texas blood.

And I was looking or I was listening back to some of our previous episodes.

We've touched on that Texas blood, but we've never actually had like a that Texas blood centric conversation before, which was very surprising to me.

So I'm very excited for this.

Cool.

Yeah, it's probably because we haven't come out with that Texas Blood book in four years.

So probably it's because of that.

Uh, and of, uh, of course, uh, Green Arrow for DC Comics' All In initiative.
