Texas Frightmare Weekend

And I love how we went to, what was the con we went to? Oh, Frightmare.

Texas Frightmare.

Texas Frightmare.

Saw a

ton of them.

She's really cool.

I met her at Texas Frightmare.

I think she was a little tipsy because she jumped up on stage during the karaoke.

That was the year that you were there, but you guys all went to the house to party or whatever.

And it's basically just to describe it for people who go to cons.

It reminded me a lot of, um, Texas Frightmare Weekend in the way that it was like set up, you know, like you have guests in like a big kind of square and then the vendors are kind of in the middle.

Of course didn't have like the guest list that Texas Frightmare had, but it had a pretty decent guest list.

They had a lot of Friday the 13th people.

He's pretty tall.

Because I remember we were at the hotel at Texas Frightmare.

And I was hanging out with him and the Saska sisters.

Uh, the director, I cannot remember his name.

Yeah.

I've met him at a convention before at Texas Frightmare like years ago, and he was genuinely like the sweetest man.

And granted, this was like almost 10 years ago now, but he was just like, I just can't believe you guys all come and see me.

I just never get over that.

For sure.

And as you know, I mean, the convention circuit is kind of, you know, wonderful in the sense that you know you go all over the world I mean it's crazy Patrick don't tell anyone this but next year is our 40th anniversary 40 years now for our 35th anniversary We went to conventions in Burbank, California, Dallas, Texas for Texas Frightmare, Manchester, England for The Love of Horror, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Monster Mania.

It was like a rock and roll band tour.

It was crazy.

Because you love this performance, I think, almost as much as me.

And, again, we met Tom Atkins at Texas Frightmare back in the summer.

Such a sweetheart.

You know, he's lost most of his hearing, but I was able to finally get across that as he was signing the photo that I had from Night of the Creeps that I asked him to sign, I said, I truly believe you should have gotten an Oscar nomination for this.

And Dallas has a thing, it's the biggest in the Southwest.

It's, it's called the Texas Frightmare Weekend.

And I'm interviewing people, and I applied for a media pass to that.

And, uh, I, you know, I, I, I'm not looking for the media pass to not pay the entry fee.

They'll say, "Hey, I've got a thing I'm working on.

If I talk to this guy, I can promote it," you know? Naturally, they're happy to talk to anybody that pays 50, 25, uh, 75 bucks for whatever they've got to, for sale or sign or a selfie.

So I'm waiting, and I'm waiting, and, and I start to talk to other people in the media, and I'm like, "Have you gotten your credentials yet for the Texas Frightmare Weekend?" And it's, like, a week before, and nobody has.

And now it's Wednesday or something, the day before, and nobody's got their credentials.

So h- having listened to all of the interviews that I possibly could from people at all levels and, and have had the opportunity to talk to people at film fests and horror festivals.

Like, there's a, a big horror festival down here in Dallas called Texas Frightmare Weekend where I was one of the people that worked that for like 12 years.

So I got to meet, like, a lot of cool people and see, like, some cool behind-the-scenes stuff like that.

But there's always trade-offs, so the trade-off is when you're doing what I do and what a ton of other people have done, you know, your Robert Rodriguez's, and Kevin Smith's, and Sam Raimi's, and all that kind of stuff, is that you have no money, you have no resources, so you have to let your imagination fly to make anything work.
