Pike denied being the person who carved the pentagram into Colleen's chest, although she acknowledged that someone else involved in the attack had cut Colleen there.

Pike said that she had also thrown away two forms of Colleen's identification and her black gloves in a trash can at a Texaco station on Cumberland Avenue.

Pike did something then that would make the case against her even stronger.

Krista Pike retraced the route the group had taken that night, describing the attack to investigators as they traveled it.

And that's really the birth of the American Giants Museum.

We wanted it to resemble a Texaco station because one of the Giants I had in my collection was a very heavily damaged Texaco Big Friend, which is a rare survivor of international fiberglass from 1966 when Texaco ordered 300 of these guys.

and ordered them all destroyed within a year and six survived and I had managed to get one and we thought well what if we make the museum like a Texaco station it resembles it and we put the Texaco guy there on one side and then on the other side we can start adding as we can all these other giants and that's eventually what happened and here we are today with a very unique roadside attraction on Route 66.

Kind of on that note, what is it you think about these that attracts people to them? Just the fascination of it, just like, what do you think it is that still after all these years, people are kind of like, I mean, maybe now it's more of a nostalgia thing, but what do you think it is that these things have that kind of endure?

Yeah, when I'm able to spend time in this museum and people come through the door, I'm always very amazed at how excited and interested, it's almost refreshing for them to walk in here.

collector? I think for me, it's the hunt.

That's my favorite part of all of this, is digging, finding that picture from 1965 of a very rare giant, whatever it may be.

Maybe it's a Texaco Big Friend like we have here.

And the first thing that we did together was called system three, which is named after a gasoline that,

um, I think it was a Texaco gasoline system three being a, like a selling point or something.

Yeah, yeah, it was like some type of gasoline you could get if you're filling up a Texaco.

Yeah, and a mutual friend of ours named Vin was working there, and they had an idea about making a hardcore band together.

So it became System 3, and then we formed that band with Vin, and Jay and Vin were the two singers, the two front men in System 3.

My mom was just constantly looking for ways to get us out, live somewhere more peaceful.

She used to work for Caltechs, which is the Texaco of Asia.

Okay.

And through that job, she was able to get us on the list of people to evacuate by plane.

work at Arby's.

So we had our first experience with sandwich, Arby's sandwich.

But a year later, Texaco called my mom because she used to work for Caltex.

So they called my mom and offered her a permanent job in Houston as a bookkeeper.

My husband was in administration.

He was the executive director of, um- ... shareholder relations for Texaco, and we had a door hanger on our, um, office door at, at home.

And on one side it said, "Middle management's prayer." And you flip it over and it says, "Middle management doesn't have a prayer." [laughs] And I always thought of superintendents the same way, because, yes, you might be, you know, at the top of the administration in a district, but there's a node above you.

Yeah.

I suppose that demonstrates the changing attitudes to money by the different generations.

In my youth, I clearly remember my father being paid in cash by Texaco.

He would give my mother money for the household bills and housekeeping.

Similarly, at least in the early days at Radio Trinidad, I was given an envelope of cash as wages at the end of the month.

It was supposed to, they could get to that crash site within 30 seconds.

Unfortunately, that plane took off and it For some reason, it crashed into the town of Carrizozo, killing people and destroying a service station, a Texaco station.

And Kistner really does document that very well.

And there's no reason for that P-80 jet to have landed on that road that far away from Fort Bliss, which is just south of White Sands Missile Range, where this jet could have landed safely.
