TestFlight

Hopefully that works on Apple.

I haven't actually tested it yet myself, which sounds crazy, right? But I wanted to get TestFlight out as soon as possible, and I figure everyone will tell me what's wrong,

and we'll get those fixed over time.

But, yeah, so I will look into that as far as background permissions go, and hopefully we'll have to fix out for that quite soon.

So

I'm not sure.

I know there's a review process every time you change the version number in TestFlight.

My understanding is once you're in TestFlight already, it's a very quick process to get it on the App Store.

So you go on GitHub, and you use something that we as a, as a community built out on GitHub, where you enter six little text snippets, and then it'll, um, automatically build for you.

Once a week it'll check if there's updates, uh, and then it'll set, it'll send basically the built app to your phone in a little app called TestFlight.

It's kind of like an unofficial App Store, basically, on your phone.

And you can go into TestFlight, and then you install Trio.

Or you go the, the more hardcore way.

I don't know.

Right.

To use TestFlight for your beta testers or to actually publish to the global app store, you have to enroll in the Apple Developer Program, which is a $99 a year toll.

But that fee grants you access to Apple's global distribution infrastructure, the ability to collect detailed crash logs from users, and the provisioning architecture to push updates safely.

So the friction of code signing isn't just Apple being difficult.

Ah.

You can use TestFlight today to do that.

So you get the full app in TestFlight.

It's free to use.

If you don't ever wanna pay, I guess you don't have to.

But and some people, if you can't afford it, don't worry about it, but most people can and you should buy it.

Yeah.

The, the barrier though has been TestFlight.

I managed to connect with an additional 46 people at the event, so hopefully we'll see people download this app really soon.

Now, it's still in test flight, so Apple TestFlight.

It's still in testing mode, and I'm still waiting for a couple more days before it gets released on the Google Play Store as well.

So if you guys are interested in this, um, app here, the web version is up and running and working, and the mobile apps are coming really soon, but you just have to go through the TestFlight process or the Android, um, testing process right now.

So it's got lots of really cool, uh, things that I've got, um, all in place.

From June to July 1st, that's when I launched, and in that month, it was just a bunch of attempts with ChatGPT and Rorq to build something that kinda works.

Basically, I would try to port the app from Rorq to TestFlight, and it-- there was just a bunch of issues.

So anytime there was an issue with Expo, I would just copy the logs, throw the logs into ChatGPT, and I kind of had ChatGPT as my advisor, and it kind of guided me through this whole process.

Now, I had to hire out one developer to integrate payments and, uh, authentication.

[laughs] Looking at my MacBook Pro, only a handful of apps to which I've granted full disk access are backup apps.

Others include," and I'll just skip ahead to the funny ones, "Pixelmator Pro, TestFlight, Madden NFL [laughs] 27 Arcade Edition," and then obviously, like, things you'd expect, like Hazel and Setup.

Well, well, yeah, but, I mean, this is the thing, right? Why does Madden have full disk access? And I think the argument would be that it absolutely shouldn't.
