All of these sectors have a limited future already because they're uncompetitive for reasons that have nothing to do with climate change.

But if you make a deliberate decision to move away from oil and gas, you know, you've got to start taking very seriously what comes next for those communities, and that the time is now to come up with a plan, make sure that the communities are the ones that are driving that plan, back that up with investment, take industrial policy seriously, and make sure that unlike oil and gas, we actually get the benefit of the huge amount of wealth that is being created in those industries.

Tessa Khan, it all sounds such common sense.

[laughs]

But climate groups say Jackdaw's contribution to our overall energy needs is negligible and that weaning ourselves off volatile gas should be the priority.
