Claire FoleyHOST
She was a lot of times coaching her teammates on the sidelines, one standing up screaming at them, telling them what to do, especially some of the younger players.
Claire FoleyHOST
So I think that she's just going to flourish when she's able to put those two things together, and especially when she's surrounded by both Ashlyn and Tessa Johnson.
Matt DowellHOST
Agreed.
Matt DowellHOST
Even though we didn't see her on the court last year, her presence was definitely felt with last year's roster.
Steve HartmanHOST
I cannot, I, believe how many good basketball players are coming out of Minnesota year after year.
Steve HartmanHOST
Like Tessa Johnson at South Carolina, obviously Paige, you know, the Chloe Johnson's come in this year.
Steve HartmanHOST
I know a girl just signed with Ohio state.
Steve HartmanHOST
And so it's just like all these elite programs after elite program.
Captain WillHOST
You can't just pack the paint because then you get your eyes shot out during the basketball game.
Captain WillHOST
When you have the number one shooter of the basketball in Tessa Johnson, shot what, close to what, 45% from three last year? You can't paint the paint.
Captain WillHOST
You add in a player like Jordan Lee, who shot about 35%.
Captain WillHOST
Adam Dow shot 37%.
Captain WillHOST
Our only All-American on this basketball team is Joyce Edwards, and she plays in the paint.
Captain WillHOST
So we may be talking about how great our perimeter players are, how I believe that Tessa Johnson is the best shooter of the basketball in the country.
Captain WillHOST
We might talk about that.
Captain WillHOST
We might talk about the gravity of Jordan Lee and what I think she's going to do for this basketball team this season.
Captain WillHOST
The tactical impact of a combination of Edwards and Watkins coming off the bench, you have two elite shot blockers who, it allows the perimeter defenders to press aggressively.
Captain WillHOST
It allows Jordan Lee to stick like glue onto a defender.
Captain WillHOST
It allows Tessa Johnson to take more risk.
Captain WillHOST
It allows Gotti to take more risk on the perimeter because you have no fear.
Captain WillHOST
We were blessed that we had Raven Johnson for four years at his South Carolina women's basketball team.
Captain WillHOST
Now we got a positionalist type situation with Tessa Johnson gonna be running the point guard position more than likely.
Captain WillHOST
And now we got to dip our toe into the high school recruiting and the foundation that I just talked about and get a potential like a Gigi Banks or a Taylor Brown or a Kayla Buse.
Captain WillHOST
One of those players will be a Gamecock next season.
Captain WillHOST
Pro-rated culture.
Captain WillHOST
This upcoming WNBA draft, three players will be drafted into the WNBA.
Captain WillHOST
Tessa Johnson, Chloe Kitts, Ashton Blackers.
Captain WillHOST
We already know that.
Matt DowellHOST
Uh, that was a good little tease for the upcoming season.
Matt DowellHOST
Uh, back to another veteran who we all know very well, Tessa Johnson.
Jolette LawGUEST
Oh, Tessa.
Jolette LawGUEST
[laughs]
Captain WillHOST
15 strong.
Captain WillHOST
So if I'm going with my lead guard, I'm going with Tessa Johnson.
Captain WillHOST
I'm going with Tessa Johnson.
Captain WillHOST
I don't know what's yours, but I'm going with Tessa Johnson.
Captain WillHOST
She is my lead guard.
Captain WillHOST
She is my floor general.
9 MINS LATER
Captain WillHOST
The size of Gotti is 6'1".
Captain WillHOST
Jordan Lee is 6'0".
Captain WillHOST
These are the things we got to deal with, okay? Because you don't have a floor general, so to speak, that we've been used to, you do have playmakers on the team.
Captain WillHOST
And if you break down the roles of Tessa Johnson and Gotti, you have outstanding playmakers.
Captain WillHOST
Tessa Johnson, all SEC.
Captain WillHOST
Tessa Johnson, who I believe this upcoming season is going to be in the conversation or make the All-American basketball team, first and second team.
Captain WillHOST
I believe that completely.
Captain WillHOST
She's a playmaker.
Captain WillHOST
Both of those basketball players are six feet or six feet one.
Captain WillHOST
Jordan Lee is a play maker.
