The last two tracks there was by the legend who goes on a name of Terry Hall.

Obviously, the first one was The Specials, which is Gangsters from 1979.

And I remember going to see The Specials at the Brighton Centre, I think it's in 2011.

And even when he was in the colour field, you know, remember the one Thinking of You was another great track by him.

But yeah, so those two are quite connected.

And like you say, the legend was Terry Hall.

So the next one, please take a listen to this because this is another favourite of mine.

Their early work packed a message about racial integration that resonated in Britain's diverse inner cities.

By the time Ghost Town was born, the band's core lineup, Terry Hall, Neville Staple, Lynval Golding, and Jerry Dammers, were already veterans of protest, having been jamming out against Thatcher's policies for years.

Britain in 1980, '81 was on the brink.

Unemployment hovered near six percent, but in some inner-city districts, it spiked over thirty percent, a staggering gulf that turned youth into rest-rest mobs.

Very talented guitarist of the Go-Go's, if you didn't know that already.

and a singer of two different bands, of the Specials and Fun Boy 3 by the name of Terry Hall, and we'll dig into that in just a bit.

A little bit about the song.

So it was first recorded by the Go-Go's, oh boy, as the opening track of their first album called Beauty and the Beat back in 1981, and then was released as their second single in June of 1981.

Our lips are sealed.

And the Go-Go's version is significantly more upbeat than the Fun Boy 3's version, which Whelan describes as great, but also gloomier.

So I did more digging and according to songfacts.com, it says here, quote unquote, Go-Go's guitarist Jane Whelan wrote this with British musician Terry Hall, who was the lead singer of the specials.

In a song facts interview with Whelan, she told the story.

So, so a bouncer lifts me over, puts me on the side of the stage.

And then Terry Hall, uh, came out and said, uh, said, "Are you okay?"

No way.

Yeah.

That's incredible.

Yeah.

Years later, I told that story on Twitter, and Terry Hall saw it and invited me, uh, to see them play in New York.

Wow.

He had just completed a really sonically amazingly beautiful album, um, for The Colourfield called Virgin and Phi- Virgins and Phili- Philistines.

Um, and that, that three piece band was fronted by Terry Hall of Fun Boy Three.

Yeah, yeah.

Terry Hall of Chrysalis, yeah.

Yeah.

Um, and, and that, that was some- that, uh, so that, that album was, uh, was, was given to us to listen to as a sort of example of Hugh's work.

Um, I interviewed, uh, um, Je- not Jerry Dammers, the lead singer.
