We're going to get an update from them on some unique things that their business does, and I'm not sure if everybody's doing it the way that they're doing it, but they do seem to be the industry leader and certainly among the largest.

There is likely less corn production than previously assumed, but there is potential yet for soybean production.

It's Mark Rosenbaum with Terrain.

The tour provided a detailed look at the current state of the corn and soybean crop across select parts of seven major Midwestern states.

Though disease issues were not as prevalent this year, persistent drought in the western Corn Belt will likely prevent Nebraska and South Dakota from repeating 2025's record corn yields.
M
10:48Mark RosenbaumSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
The tour estimated the national average corn yield at 173.2 bushels per acre, with production of 15.344 billion bushels, about 670 million bushels below the USDA's August WASDE.
M

While we disagree with the magnitude of the national yield estimate, the tour confirmed what the USDA already suggested in its August forecast, below-trend yields for corn.
M
11:09Mark RosenbaumSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
Terrain's analysis of crop tour estimates compared with the USDA's official final yields over the past 10 years suggests an average yield closer to 176.5 bushels per acre.
M
11:18Mark RosenbaumSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
If realized, this would imply production at about 15.64 billion bushels, just 375 million bushels shy of the USDA's forecast in August.

What have you got going on at Terrain these days? Anything you're especially working on or some information that Terrain's going to make available to farmers?
B

Yeah, so I am focused on doing an ethanol paper specifically and trying to simplify a lot of this biofuel jargon because it does get very confusing quickly, and it's unique depending if you're talking about soybeans versus corn.
