Telling Lies

You're just trying to figure out what actually has happened.

Um, then they did Telling, I think it's Telling Lies.

Do-do-do, I think that's it.

And then they did Immortality.

Yeah

... and we shot, like, Telling Lies in LA.

And I was like, "Okay, this is it.

We're gonna get an office and I'm gonna hire local people, and we're gonna make a New York game studio." And, like, three months later, COVID happened, and then everyone on my team moved back home or wherever they were from and, and now we are, like, a combination of people here in New York and people who are remote.

I remember in the spare bedroom us sitting down and playing it, and doing it exactly how Kinda Funny shouldn't do it, where we're talking over it, playing, it was, uh, okay, it didn't connect the way it should have because we're all horsing around in the middle of it.

And then of course, uh, from there Telling Lies, which was one that really caught my attention.

I sat there, played it on an iPad actually, and played it on a rainy day here in San Francisco, and had a notebook full of things as I tried to put together the story.

And really, you know, as a person who's been playing games his entire life, has seen so many FMV games, and they're usually pretty bad, or, and they don't nail what they're trying to do, and they're awkward.

But Telling Lies nailed it.

To then get Immortality and be given a game that in no way feels like a game.

Though, of course, I think her story and Telling Lies were not Half Mermaid.

I think only Immortality was Half Mermaid.

But any of those sorts of games, the sort of like piecing together a mystery, if you like Obra Dinn, I think this is in that class.
