Tekken 3

So, as we always do, Do you have any prior experience with Tekken 8, or did you sort of fall off the wagon with the Tekken series after a certain number?

Yeah, well, we've done Tekken 3 on the podcast in the past, haven't we? Yes, we have.

And it's been the case that, I think in that episode I mentioned, that I've got a lot of experience playing Tekken 2, which was on the original PlayStation, as was Tekken 3.

But because I'm not really an arcade fighter kind of person, I'm generally quite crap at them.

It's not a game genre that I've ever really dabbled with and played, so I don't enjoy it because I'm just no good at them.

Obviously, if I practiced, I would get better, but, you know.

So, yeah, I've... because i think in the tekken 3 episode we also talked about the story of tekken and it's one of those things i always forget exists um and we've well i've particularly now missed tekken 4 5 6 7 and we come in at 8 and in between that there's been a few different ones like tag tournaments and stuff as well aren't there so i've gone into this pretty blind to be honest um but it's good to see that a lot of the original characters who were in Tekken 2 and 3 are still in the roster of Tekken 8.

So yeah, I went into it completely blind, knew nothing about it, just knew that it was Tekken, and I was somewhat familiar with the premise.

Like I played Tekken 1, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken 4, I played Tekken 6.

God,

there's Tekken 8.

Sounds about right.

But yeah, I used to go there when I was a kid, and Tekken 3 would be on the PlayStation.

I used to play that.

And then when I got a little bit older, I got Tekken 5 on the PS2.

Rhys, you've never really been one for fighting games.

Was Tekken 5 ever one that you spent much time with?

No, my entire, like I explained in the Tekken, earlier Tekken episode, is Tekken 3 at the movie theater way back when was sort of like my primary way.

I played a little Tekken 7 at some point, but these middle Tekkens are a total mystery to me.

lot of fights on Tekken 3 with my brother.

Like it's such a, oh, Crash Bandicoot Racing, Crash Team Racing.

I actually think that that mod in Tekken 3 is better than them all.

So I just feel like the idea of like an improved version Tomb Raider 3 or 4 ports on the PS2, kind of similar to maybe what Tekken Tag Tournament was.

That started as an arcade title, it was a Tekken 3 special edition and they reformatted it as a PS2 launch title.

I still think it looks amazing today, Simon, but that's by the by.

But to have that multiplayer mode as an enhanced Tomb Raider 3, 4 game, I think would have really made an impression and I think it would have helped that wait for Tomb Raider 6 as well once it eventually released I'm not sure if reception would have changed but I feel like it would have helped the wait at least

Now, PlayStation emulation has been a little hit and miss.

I did show Zan Tekken 3 running on it,

and I

have played Tekken 3 on it.

It does work.

It is fine.

If I had one thing, it's like the shoulder buttons on the back.

It's very easy to bridge across.
