Tekken 2

Yeah, well, we've done Tekken 3 on the podcast in the past, haven't we? Yes, we have.

And it's been the case that, I think in that episode I mentioned, that I've got a lot of experience playing Tekken 2, which was on the original PlayStation, as was Tekken 3.

But because I'm not really an arcade fighter kind of person, I'm generally quite crap at them.

It's not a game genre that I've ever really dabbled with and played, so I don't enjoy it because I'm just no good at them.

Obviously, if I practiced, I would get better, but, you know.

So, yeah, I've... because i think in the tekken 3 episode we also talked about the story of tekken and it's one of those things i always forget exists um and we've well i've particularly now missed tekken 4 5 6 7 and we come in at 8 and in between that there's been a few different ones like tag tournaments and stuff as well aren't there so i've gone into this pretty blind to be honest um but it's good to see that a lot of the original characters who were in Tekken 2 and 3 are still in the roster of Tekken 8.

So yeah, I went into it completely blind, knew nothing about it, just knew that it was Tekken, and I was somewhat familiar with the premise.

What about you?

I'm not really a Street Fighter gal.

I was more a Tekken 2 and Mortal Kombat.

So, you know, I played a little Street Fighter.

But does he play one of the main characters? I don't

And I was like, what? Neil McDonagh.

You know what we got to do? I think I've done most fighting game movies, except for Tekken 2, the prequel.

I didn't know there was a TV.

Yeah, there was.

Today, we're walking to the movie Street Fighter, the latest in the video game adaptation gold rush that's happening in Hollywood.

When we went to see Resident Evil, you were asking me what video games I used to play, and I forgot to say I used to play Tekken 2 a lot, which I presume is very similar to Street Fighter.

Yeah, I think maybe Tekken 2.

It might have been like the year after or something.

You have to take control of your life.

And the truth is, is that I had no skills then because I would spend my nights playing Tekken 2, smoking pot and watching TV and just being a complete loser.

degenerate okay now I'm in a marketing degenerate but you know that that did that behavior did not improve my life and I had girlfriend after girlfriend leave me and one day I came home and I had another girlfriend leave me her bags were packed at the door and she said Dan you're not going anywhere in life And, you know, at first I thought, oh, she's just being crazy or whatever.

This was seismic to me because it introduced me to a variety of games that I wouldn't have played.

So Tekken 2, for instance.

Yeah, what was on there? So there was Tekken 2, which obviously introduced me to the series.

But because they were trying to cram as many games as they could into one dish, there was no music on this demo.

You could only play as Lei and Jun from Tekken 2. and that was it you couldn't do anything else you had maybe a couple matches and that was it and it was just amazing like it was just full 3d and the others was crash bandicoot the original and it was the second level and that was something else as well i couldn't believe how good that looks even though you just you know walking in a in a straight line essentially there was oh life force tanker i'm not sure if you remember that one simon like a a first person shooter with a gun that changed um in different forms

Oh, I don't remember that one.

Well, I think, yeah, you know, it's a bit cheeky, but I think the fact that they're not full games means that you get away with it.

Uh, so yeah.

So Kazuma Kazya is, like, is the main character of Tekken One, and then becomes the bad guy in Tekken Two, because Heihachi becomes the main character in Tekken Two.

It's all about a dad throwing his son off a volcano.
